The evening sky was occupied with a rustic colour, orange and yellow. The city was busy and the shopkeepers were closing down their shops to return home. Youngsters were marching towards the galle face where the struggle was going on. They were shouting out different slogans. A rain is about to pour onto the earth. Dried leaves rattled in the wind. There was a girl, our heroine Olivia paying her last respect in a nearby graveyard. She quickly kept the bunch of flowers on the grave and ran home by placing her bag on her head. Her house was nearby so she was able to reach there quickly. Her whole dress was bulging wet and attached to her slender body. Her aunt Joel Perera was cleaning the floor with a broom. Joel looked at the girl who was completely drained in wet.
"Oh Olivia go in and change your clothes. You'll catch a cold if you wait for another few minutes."
Olivia's aunt prepared coffee for her while she was having a shower.

Olivia's father is a British and her mother is a Sri Lankan who belongs to a christian family. They both died from the tsunami attack in the year 2004 when she was an infant. Since then her aunt Joel was taking care of Olivia.

Afterwards Olivia joined her aunt to have some coffee. Joel began to insult the government as usual while sipping her coffee but Olivia was silent. "Now even I feel like going to the struggle. This government is a whole load of shit. They think that people will always endure their injustice. Foolish old rats. They should be damned. I feel pity for the poor people. See the price of fuel. We had to work for a roster to go for work because of this fuel crisis. Ah! When will this seek an end?" Olivia nodded her head with a small smile. "Ah! Forget it. It's a real headache.
Dear how was your maths test today? Was it easy?" asked her aunt.
"Not much hard." She said by sipping the coffee. "Today I went to the grave yard after class to visit Ryan's grave. It's almost a year now. I am so upset"Olivia uttered.

Joel was well aware of the friendship between Olivia and Ryan. She became friendly with him due to her sympathy towards his mentaly unstable condition and innocence. Joel didn't like this friendship much but Olivia continued to take care of him as soon as she joined her new school last year.
"I know the way how you feel darling. That's what you call life. It's totally uncertain. I also feel upset for Ryan's death. It's a tragical one just like your parents." At once the lights went off. "Pfff a powercut" Her aunt changed the subject quickly with the help of the powercut.
"I think the CEB is having a doomed fate. How long will this powercut last today? Ah, yes 8 hours from now on. Shit, this fucking government" Olivia forgot the sorrow for a moment and a slight smile drew due to the hilarious pattern in her aunt's vituperation towards the government.

After having dinner Olivia went to bed & tugged the sheets closer because it was cold. She remembered his innocent smile which seems to be hiding thousand facts. A slight tear rested in the corner of her eyes. He died tragically for his whole house was burnt down due to a gas leakage. The ashes which were believed to be Ryan's were only left for cremation. It was so tragic. Tragic indeed. Even his uncle was very irresponsible for he was in charge to look after Ryan but he was missing since the day the fire had occured. In this life she lost her parents and even his best friend."why is life so uncertain?" She used to question herself whenever she felt disgusted over life. Olivia closed her eyes tightly and fell into a deep sleep.
