"What have I got myself into."
"What was that?" My friend Mike said to me as we pulled off the highway and onto another road.
"You know what I'm talking about." I said with coy smile. "I'm on the road with you like last minute. How did my parents even let me in the car with you."
"Well, it's got to be that innocent smile and fast talk you always do when you want something." He said smiling back.
My friend Mike and I were on the way to a gay camping resort that is apparently very popular. Many men and women flock to this place from all different states. And I was one of them.
"So what are we doing again? Going here?" I asked for the hundredth time.
"Well, I am a guest DJ for their beach party and a nightclub party and you are there to just be really cute. Flirt with as many men as you want." He said while laughing.
"I would do that if I was single." I said in the most serious tone I could muster.
"What he doesn't know won't hurt him." Mike said.
He did not approve of my latest boyfriend. His name is Michael and he also did not like my friend Mike. Let us just say there is a mutual feeling of hate between these too.
I should introduce my friend Mike. He is my best gay friend ever. He heard me sing at a Drag Pageant and fell in love with everything about my performance. Plus, he has a thing for Asians. He lives on his own and doesn't like people. But his hobby is DJ-ing. Figure that one out.
"How long are we staying there?" I asked while looking for my phone.
"Just the weekend, I have told you all this before we left." He said with a chuckle. "What are you looking for?"
"I am looking for my lost and I am beginning to think forgotten phone." I was ripping through my endless amount of baggage looking for this darn thing.
I finally just sat back and began to silently curse myself out with many unmentionable words.
"You don't need your phone love." Mike said as the mood of the car ride just went from fun to suck my-
"I know but how is my boyfriend going to keep me in check." I said with a dramatic sigh.
"Screw your boyfriend and let loose. Sam. For heaven's sake you are supposed to be living your life not committing to something you will have for many years when you are too old to party. Too old to do anything. Just have fun." Mike exasperated.
"I know. I know. But for once I don't have to be alone." I said.
"And alone you won't be. I am sure there will be many men there ready to keep you company." He said while rubbing my leg.
"Sure." Me on the other hand I was not so confident.
"Well, start letting loose now." He said while turning up the music.
It was a remix of Mr. Know It All. And Mike was taking pride in it as he started to speed up the car to pass these ridiculously slow people. I was belting it out and just enjoying the moment. A weekend without my phone is going to be so much fun. Not.
