Tina's Suitors
Tina was in her room glancing happily at her reflection in the mirror as she was listening to her favorite music on the radio that fresh sunny morning. She was continuously checking herself to see if she looked fine. With her finely brushed hair swaying gracefully towards her face as the calm wind approaches every strand of her hair, she divided them with a fine-toothed comb leaving every strand to lay on both of her collar bones. She was wearing a red, beautifully knitted dress which flowed abundantly on her body allowing her body's natural shape to come out. She was like a rose sitting with complete dignity on her chair located in front of the mirror. It was a big day for her. Her suitors were about to visit her.
It was a silent morning and the soft music which was coming from the radio was the only sound that was enveloping the entire house. Suddenly, a roaring sound from afar which was coming towards their house slowly dominated the entire place. It was swiftly pacing its way towards them without minding the bumpiness of the road in which it was being in contact with. A sparkling blue chevy car slowly parked itself in the shade of a big acacia tree located in front of their house. A tall, handsome, young man wearing a pair of golden Ray-Ban sunglasses, and a velvet black tuxedo went out of the car carrying a bouquet of fragrant, red roses. It was Arthur, the son of the governor of their province. With no further ado, he went directly in front of their wooden doorstep and knocked three times at their old, wooden door with maintained posture and pride. Tina's mother answered the door and with no hesitation she let Arthur come inside their home. Tina did not make a single move from her posture. She waited patiently until her other suitors come.
Her next suitor did arrive. But now, the suitor did not came with a car instead he was with his big, red motorcycle with black flaming shaped strips of stickers all over it. He parked his wild and noise producing motorcycle in front of their wooden doorstep and gave a sharp and uneasy look at the car that came before his. He clutched both sides of his hard, black helmet which came pretty well with his motorcycle and glided it away from his head exposing his newly tinted, brown, curly hair. It was Josh, a promiscuous guy who always wants to party and have fun. He was as fierce as a lion which was very evident with the way he looked. Before knocking at their door, he first glanced at himself in the side mirror of his motorcycle checking his reflection wich he normally does and then ceaselessly wiped his brown leather jacket with white polo shirt underneath, his dark, blue jeans, and his black shoes. He then knocked steadfastly with his hard, gripping arms at their door which was again answered by Tina's mother. Josh went inside the house and upon seeing Arthur, he sniffed rudely with a murmur in the air as he was invited to sit next to him. He saw the fragrant bouquet of flowers Arthur was holding and then eventually, he showed off a box of random, imported chocolates which he brought for Tina. Again, Josh gave Arthur a look addressing a stench of failure towards him but sadly, Arthur did not care at all. Arthur in return gave Josh a clever smirk. Tina, on the other hand, again, did not bother to go out of her room. She wanted everyone to be there and so, she waited for her last suitor.
An hour passed but her last suitor was still not in sight. Tina's heart broke apart but she still went out of her room and decided to approach her suitors. Their eyes smiled upon seeing Tina walk towards them like a cat. Arthur stood up like a soldier and offered his fragrant flowers to her. Tina's cherry lips spread generously and her cheeks were tinted with red color. Josh saw her reaction and grunted. He was displeased with what he saw. He told Tina to sit beside him plumping the clean space next to him while handing her his box of random chocolates with a shaking hand. Arthur's brows met and insisted that Tina should instead sit with him. Josh was about to throw his arm towards Arthur leaving Tina blown out of the water when a soft knock on the door blew the whistle. Her mother, grasped for air and ran like a horse towards the door. It was Marshall, a brown, muscular, native man who always spends his time helping his father to make a living. He was on his normal attire- an almost white tank top, a faded blue jeans, and his favorite black slippers. "I deeply apologize Aleng Bebang for my ill-behavior. I was not able to come early because I was at the farm helping father pick ripe mangoes that will be delivered to the market this afternoon. I hope you and Tina will forgive me. I even brought her this one piece of mango." Tina's mother smiled upon hearing the man's words. She let the honest man go inside their home tapping his hard shoulders. When Tina saw Marshall her face glowed, her body became stiff, there was an unexplainable burst that happened inside her body, her heart beat went fast, sweat dripped from her scalp to the nape of her neck down to her weak back. The only thing that she was able to utter was "I knew you would come. I was expecting you!"
A lot of people say that opposites attract- that people tend to find their mate according to the difference of their preferences because they get to learn and discover new things through these differences. But truly, people tend to appreciate those that have the same insights as theirs because most of the time they get the best of both worlds with them. Treasures are not to be searched. People should just turn around and discover for themselves that the treasures they were yearning have always been with them.
