“C’mon Layla, we’re gonna be late for school if you don’t hurry up!” I heard my sister Kiera yell through the bathroom door. “I’ll be out in a minute” I yelled back. Quickly pulling down my shirt down I thought to myself I hope I’m wrong. It’s the first day of senior year and the first day of high school for Kiera. “I’m nervous” Kiera said as we pulled into the school parking lot. “Don’t be you’ll be fine” I said trying to assure her, “Maybe you’ll find a boyfriend like I did in freshman year” I added, thinking of Drew. “I doubt that, I’m not as pretty as you Lay”. “What, are you serious right now Ki? we practically look like twins” I said. “You are just a little shorter than me”.
I felt hands go over my eyes and a deep, playful voice that said “If I don’t get a kiss in 5 seconds I’ll kill you”. I quickly turned around and said “Well then you will never get any more kisses from me” I said playfully and kissed him. As we pulled away I saw that Kiera had found some of her friends. “Well I guess she doesn’t need my help anymore” I told Drew smiling at him.
As we walked in to school, hand-in-hand, my best friend Riley came up to us “so how are you two lovebirds?” she said teasingly. “We’re good” I answered slightly confused. I hadn’t told he what happened over the vacation with Drew. As class started I got a text from Riley saying “I know”. I shot a glance at her and mouthed “what”. When class ended she ran up to me and whispered in my ear “Jayk told me”. “Told you about what?” I asked confused. “Vacation, you, Drew” and walked away. I understood what she meant.
At lunch I found Drew, “You told Jayk?” I whispered to him. “Ummm….” He said looking guilty. “I thought you told Riley” he said. “No” I said annoyed, “I didn’t tell anyone”. “Oh Layla I’m sorry I didn’t think Jayk would tell anyone” he said sincerely. “It’s okay, just next time don’t tell anyone”. “So there’s gonna be a next time?” he said with a smile on his face while wrapping his arms around my waist. “Maybe if you behave” I said wrapping my arms around his neck, smiling back at him.
After school I went to Drew’s and Jayk’s house with Riley. “I have to tell you something” I said nervously. “Really, you’re actually gonna tell me something?!” she asked teasingly, still slightly upset about me not telling her that Drew and I had sex. “I’m late” I blurted out. “Late for what, the guys’ house isn’t going anywhere” she replied. “No Riley you don’t understand, I was supposed to get my period a week ago” I said slowly. She stopped walking. “WHAT?!?!” she screamed. “Did you guys use a condom?” “Yes or at least I though he did”. “Are you gonna tell Drew?” she asked worried. “I don’t know should I? And Riley don’t tell Jayk ‘cause then he’ll tell Drew and I want to tell him because what if I’m not pregnant” I couldn’t stop rambling. “Layla its okay, I think you should tell Drew today, he’ll love you no matter what” she replied encouragingly.
At the house Drew and Jayk were playing Xbox. Riley motioned to Jayk to leave so I could tell Drew. When we were alone I blurted out “Drew I think I’m pregnant”. “Wait, what?” he said in shock. “How many days are you late?” he asked. “A week” I replied. “Holy crap” he said getting up and walking around, trying to make sense of all this. On the way home I picked up a pregnancy test. I stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom staring at the strip of paper. I walked out of the bathroom and said one word to Drew “positive”. I started to cry. “Don’t worry babe, we’ll be great parents, I’m going to make sure of it” Drew said trying to reassure me.
