Lexa lay awake in bed, trying to ignore the fact that Clarke was sleeping beside her. They had sleepovers all the time but lately she had been getting weird feelings for her best friend, and it was confusing, terrifying, and amazing all at the same time. When they were together, Lexa felt happier than at any other time. But then Clarke would run off with Bellamy at lunch to have a romantic picnic, or after school to the movies, and Lexa felt terrible, thinking about how lucky he was.
She looked beside her, and her heart ached as she gazed down at Clarke's messy hair, draping over and covering her face.
She carefully moved the blonde strands behind Clarke's ear, and leaned in to kiss her forehead. "You're the best friend ever," Lexa whispered.
"I know," came a murmured, half-asleep reply.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to wake you."
Clarke didn't say anything, she just stared at Lexa, which made her heart race and her face warm.
"You've been acting different," Clarke said after a minute. "Is something wrong?"
"No, I just... I don't like Bellamy, and I feel different, and I want to tell you but it's about you.." Lexa sighed, a tear running down her cheek.
"Bellamy and I broke up a week ago Clarke said quietly.
"What? Why didn't you-"
Clarke silenced Lexa by leaning forwards and softly kissing her. Then she pulled back and met Lexa's eyes nervously.
"What if I liked you?"
Lexa touched her lips with a look of awe. "What if I liked you back?"
"Then I'd say we should talk about this tomorrow, because I'm exhausted."
Lexa smiled and so did Clarke, and they shared one last quick kiss before turning opposite ways and trying to get some sleep.
