People tended to say that Penelope Lowell was a troubled kid. From the seven schools that she's been kicked out of, She's been called the hothead, for blowing up at a Teacher when she called her a liar for seeing a snake-looking woman near the school. That argument ended with Penelope getting expelled for throwing a desk chair out the classroom window.Other than having IED disorder, Penelope considered herself cursed for also having ADHD and Dyslexia. Her mom swore she wasn't but she begged to differ.
Her mom, Cecelia Lowell, was the best mom she could've ever asked for. Considering all her problems, her mom never gave up on her. Penelope was considered her mother's double, from the dark brown curly hair to their olive complexion and their match noses, they were considered twins. The only difference was their eyes. Cecelia has hazel green eyes while Penelope has eyes as dark as an onyx stone. Together they lived in a loft in Manhattan.
After being kicked out of her old school, her mom put her in a school nearby called Meriweather College prep. It was there where Penelope met Percy Jackson, a kid that could match her in the amount of trouble they each got into. Well, technically Percy won in that category considering he was wanted for arrest the year prior.
He was her first friend in years.
They met the second week of school when they both got detention for 'talking back'. It was there, that their friendship began. Alongside Percy came Tyson. Tyson was like a six-foot-three Teddy bear. As big and strong looking he was, he could not defend himself for the life of him. So it was up to Percy and Penelope to make sure they didn't always try and target him. There were moments when Tyson would say odd things to her. Like how she and Percy smelled similar but she was foggier. She could never understand what that meant but she started wearing better-smelling perfume.
According to Percy, trouble always seemed to follow him and from his stories on reasons why he would be kicked out, it just seemed like the kid had major bad luck. So she took it as her job to make sure they all stayed out of trouble. She had promised her mom she wouldn't get expelled that year and she kept her promise and stayed out of trouble. Percy nearly made it.
Tyson and Percy had gone to their last period of the day, which was gym, and she had gone to her's, English.
Penelope had no clue that a bunch of giants were going to blow up their school gym and put the blame on Percy.
She didn't hear from either of them for months. During the first few weeks of summer, Penelope would call Sally Jackson, Percy's mom the sweetest woman you'd ever meet (other than her mom), and ask where he was and what had happened. Sally told her that Percy was falsely accused and that he had gone to Summer camp much earlier than intended.
Questioning Percy disappearing would later be a secondary worry.
It was later that summer that Penelope activated her family curse.
Passed down from her Grandfather's side Andreas Lowell, Penelope's grandmother Isadora Lowell would always tell her stories of their family's legend, told to her by her grandfather.
No one officially knew how their curse began. There were many stories, but her grandmother's favorite to tell were the ones that involved the greek gods.
According to the stories the Lowells resided in a village in Ancient Greek, Arcadia where a sorceress enjoyed causing havoc. Many that were brave enough gathered together to collect magical tools to entrap her. In her final breath, the sorceress made her final curse. A curse placed on those present, powered by her death and tied to the full moon. To transform into the beast that were used to find her.
A clan of werewolves. Activated when a cursed one is involved with a human's death. To endure tremendous pain during the night of the full moon.
It was said that decades after the death of the sorceress was when their 'curse' turned into a 'gift'.
When a member of the clan saved a huntress of the Hunters of Artemis. The Goddess later granted them a wish. They then possessed the ability to transform at will. To have complete control of their strengths and the perks they earned from the curse.
Many may ask "where are the werewolves now?" Well, Penelope's grandmother said they were hunted. Hunted until many believed them extinct. Her grandpa believed there were some left, just scattered around the world, waiting to be found by people just like them. But sadly her grandpa never had the chance to find out if it were true.
The curse was never predictable. None of the descendants from the cursed ones knew when the curse would show up again. For example, Penelope's mom Cecelia showed no sign of bearing the curse, but according to grandma Isa, it was better being safe than sorry and having no knowledge about the curse will give you less chance of activating it.
But unluckily for Penelope, she activated it. Her grandma Isa had convinced her mom that moving back to their family home in Portland, Maine would help Penelope get over such a traumatic event, when in reality every full moon Penelope would transform into a giant wolf while her grandma would try and coach her the best she could, considering she wasn't the one who passed it down.
So Penelope never thought she'd see Percy Jackson again.
Until He and his friends crashed her school dance later that winter.
