this chapter is going to be about the conversation val and dal had about his past which will lead to her surprise reveal.

"did i ever tell you where i grew up in new york?" he said brushing his fingers through my hair.

"no."

"well i never really had a place to stay most nights, but the streets were really something else man. there were gang fights, parties, and races. i got caught up in a shit ton of it and my ass became grass. my mom tried getting me out of trouble, but with her dying i just didnt want to feel."

"kind of like what i told you about how i felt like nothing before you came along?"

"yeah something like that doll. i just didn't know how to cope with her getting sick and having to work all these jobs while my ole man sat on his ass all day. fucking scumbag. i should have done more, but i didnt. i used to love my mom. she was the only person i ever loved until you came. she always took me to those uh amusement parks. my dad told me to lone the streets when she died and that night i got arrested." he set my hair down and just laid flat and still.

"how old were you?"

"10. i was 10 with more of a criminal record than the human population man. it was like a reward. i got respect on the streets and well i got other stuff too." his faced turned red as he said that last sentence.

i could imagine what he got into. he was a troubled teen, just like the rest of us. we all just want to be loved and when we dont get that, we retaliate.

"do you regret going to jail and getting into all that trouble?"

he chuckled and shook his head. "no doll, thats just who i am. no changing me."

"i like who you are dallas. you can be a real dick, but you are always real with me and i cant thank you enough for that."
