As many times as it takes

A girl, almost a woman by now, stood in a kitchen. She was baking her recipe of chocolate chip cookies for no reason other than she had a strange craving for them. The girl was home alone so she had her favorite song playing in the background that she hummed along without a care in the world. She stirred and stirred almost drooling with how good the dough was smelling.

Everything was perfect.

She never wanted to leave this moment in time. If she could she would have paused time itself and sat it this blissful peace. As if things couldn't get better HE walked in. His hair looking like he had just rolled out of bed and his smile almost blinding. The boy had mentioned coming over earlier so his arrival didn't come as a surprise.

He grabbed the girl by the waist and they started to sway to the music. He twirled her and brought her closer in to his chest as she laughed. They were facing each other- their noses almost touching- the girl's eyes crinkled with her joy but they boy's did not.

Noticing this the girl grabbed his face searching for what was bothering him at this perfect moment, but when she looked deep into his eyes for the answer she did not find what she expected.

A flash of something in her mind.

A scream.

Blood.

The girl backed away from him grabbing onto the counter. Her head hurt. The boy reached for the girl confused by her action, but she flinched. Something inside her told her to run. Told her to hide. She didn't listen to those thoughts pushing them away as she knew he would never cause her harm. She looked at the boy's distressed face and her vision went hazy.

The girl opened her eyes again to see the strange scene around her. This was her kitchen, just not the one she was in a moment ago. She saw it this time. The boy, the one she loved so dearly, standing over something. She couldn't tell what it was, but his hands....

His hands were covered in a dark crimson liquid and the air smelled strongly of iron. She gasped in horror, her throat feeling like it was closing in on itself. She stumbled to the door. The boy had heard her. She tried to scream. Tried to yell for help, but it was no use.

She felt a tug at her legs. The girl looked back ready to fend off the boy, but there was no one there. She lost her balance as the tug at her legs turned into a hard pull. The invisible force dragged her into the kitchen were the boy was standing. All she could do was claw at the ground hoping to grab onto something, but it was no use.

The invisible force hoisted her into the air so she came face to face with the boy much like she had earlier. He wrapped one arm around her waist as she attempted to squirm out of his grasp. The invisible force back, feeling like a thousand pair of hands keeping her still. She screamed, but nothing came out.

The boy reached his spare hand up to her face to brush a strand of her hair behind her ears. "This is not how this was supposed to go," the boy moved his hand to the back of her head almost as an embrace, "I so sorry it had to end like this. I promise I'll try again..."

The girl looked over his shoulder could see who's blood the boy was covered with. She saw the glassy eyes of the same face she saw everyday in the mirror. She felt her heart drop as she finally understood the weight of his words.

"I will try as many times as it takes."
