To my Family, my Friends
And my English teacher.

Cluedo:
As I child I was bullied a lot, and not like any other child was in preschool, middle school or any high school they ever went to. I was bullied on a normal basis, not because I was fat or in love with someone, just because I had friends I chose because they were nice people not popular or rich people. And I protected them. So every time I would stand beside my friends while they were being judged on by the popular kids I would be the one to blame when their plan didn’t work. Not that this has anything to do with my apocalypse of a life right now but after what happened it became kind of clear that my childhood was just a boot camp for my adolescent life.
“Okay, see you in twenty Scarlet!”
“Promise!” she said. And she held that promise, she knocked on the door twenty minutes later, Ray and I were talking about our life problems and Jake was finishing his second beer when he opened the door. “Jakeeee!” Scarlet screamed as she punched him in the face while trying to give him a hug. “Scarlet he…” he was still touching his eye, when Ray gave him a “friendly” punch on the shoulder. “He Scarlet!” Ray said as he tried to give her a beer…but often that doesn’t really work. Not that she doesn’t like beer, well I don’t know if she does, we don’t really talk non-stop about beer… “I need to go in ten minutes Ray.” Jake said. “Where are you going?” Scarlet asked while grabbing a bag of ice for Jake. “He’s going to meet some friends in Colorado.” Ray said. “Yeah, I’m going to meet my brother to, it’s been ages since I’ve seen him.” Jake said. “Thanks.” He said to Scarlet when she gave him the ice pack. “Sorry!” she squeaked. “You’ve been served Jake, by girl, bravo!” Ray teased him, you could say that was one of his main hobbies, besides riding his car everywhere…even around the corner, well sometimes if the car even works. “Where’s Raven?” Ray finally asked. “Family business.” I said. “Family? You’re sure she didn’t say farm or fairy?” Ray was surprised as were we. “Yep, she said family.” Scarlet said.
“Wow.” Ray said very, very dramatically. “Shall we go?” Ray said, “I’m just dropping him off at the airport then I’ll be back. “ he finished. “Okay, we’ll be fine.” Scarlet said as she put the ice pack back in the freezer. “Bye!” Jake said as he closed the door behind him. When Ray finally came back, we talked for ages and danced like Mick Jagger wannabes. The week after Scarlet started packing for Colombia. It was her one and only dream, which she actually shared with Raven, this was one of the small reasons why they were going to share a room together. We also got a text from Raven that she was having a small family week. But we didn’t believe it, she loved her family but she wouldn’t go on a family trip. Besides her dad was always the workaholic so it would be more like a mother daughter week, and the story’s she told us about the fights she had with her mom, why would she want a whole week of that?
After Jake got back from his Colorado trip he told us all about it, and he knew allot! But he didn’t talk about the friends and his brother he talked about the landscape and the city’s he visited, which was strange because he wasn’t the backpacking type of guy.
Raven still wasn’t back from her “family trip” but this didn’t worry us. She’d often disappear for a week or sometimes even two, and then come back with five thousand dollars and tell us about the time she had in Atlantic City. But that was Raven, not me.
My dad used to tell me that there were three kinds of people in New York City:
You have the people that were born rich and get everything they desire or at least wanted everything they desired, and yes they would do anything. You have the people that came to New York to life their dream, like the actors that all come to Hollywood to make their “big brake”. And then you have the people who can’t chose sides… I don’t know what type of New Yorker I am, but my mom told me that that made be number three. Maybe she was right, I wasn’t here to follow my dreams and I definitely wasn’t rich or wanted to be. I was the one who had it al figured out: Go to Harvard law, get you're diploma and work at the best firm in New York City. But I didn't get in. I really thought I would, Jake did.
