The rules were simple. Be respectful and obedient, show up to class on time, make good grades, keep your uniform clean and neat, don't drink, party, smoke, or have sex, and most importantly, show up to mass on Sundays. If you broke a single one of these rules, it meant a meeting with Father Alexander, and with the way this school did discipline, most wanted to avoid that at all costs. Even Abigail found herself fearful of punishment, which was likely why she behaved as well as she did.
Abigail sighed as she pulled her hair back with the black ribbon required by the school. To keep distractions out of the way they made all girls keep the same hairstyle, a simple ponytail tied back with a black ribbon, it was a part of their uniform. She slipped on the knee high socks that were followed by a pair of black Mary Jane's. She pressed the stop button on her Bluetooth speaker and disconnected her phone from it's charger. With a final look around her room to make sure she wasn't forgetting anything, she grabbed her bag and headed out into the halls of the school. She passed by many girls who looked like her, with the strict dress code that was put in place, almost all girls looked the same. Not that Abigail minded, there was less to make fun of if they all looked identical. She turned a sharp left into Sister Martha's class, it was one of her base courses, history. Abigail sat down in the back and pulled out her textbook, she couldn't help but roll her eyes though, the stupid thing cost her over a hundred dollars and even though she used it, it wasn't even required. She felt a presence beside her, and when she looked over she noticed her dorm mate, Olivia, had sat beside her.
"Hey Abigail! How are you this morning?" She asked, her ever cheery voice brightening the room slightly.
"I'm good, really tired though. I might try to catch up on some sleep this weekend." Abigail answered, turning away from her history book.
"You do you, just don't miss the Sunday mass, you've yet to have a meeting with father Alexander, I'd hate for you to start now."
"I almost forgot about that! You had a meeting with him last week didn't you?" The other woman nodded, and the tips of her ears turned pink.
"The discipline is old school, but effective, I suppose." She muttered, and Abigail understood what she meant.
"Was it painful?"
"Well- yeah, but afterwards he rubbed my back and let me take a nap. He's not as mean as people make him out to be." Abigail nodded, and upon hearing the footsteps at the front of the room, turned to face sister Martha.
"Good morning class!" She said, a bright smile on her face.
"Good morning sister Martha." Came the unanimous reply. She started writing something down in large letters on the board, and in just a few moments the entire class was wrapped up in a lesson.Abigail didn't care much for her base classes, she only took them because they were required. However, as she approached the end of the day, her more preferred classes came up. First was zoology, and after that was visual arts. She loved animals, and art was a strong passion of hers. Sister Katherine taught zoology, and she was one of the sweetest women Abigail had ever met. On the other hand, sister Evangeline taught art, and she was as mean and prickly as they come. It was difficult to pass her class, however Abigail managed to stay on top and avoid getting in trouble. She even managed to find the time to help Olivia pass. And now she sat there, watching a documentary on Leonardo Da Vinci and the Mona Lisa and taking enough notes to go around the world fifty times, the other girls didn't understand it, but that was how she passed her classes.
When the video ended Abigail picked up her books and started making her way back to her dorm, she was tempted to skip dinner and take a nice long nap. After all, she was exhausted. But then she remembered, she had homework. She silently swore to herself as she entered her dorm room, "Hey Abigail, do you think you can help me with my art homework? I'm having issues making my eyes look good." Olivia asked as Abigail walked in, she was hunched over a piece of paper on her desk, erasing an eye from the woman she was drawing.
"Sure thing, I just have to finish my homework first." She sat down beside Olivia at the desk, pulling out her own homework and starting on it. The two girls worked in silence for most of the day, and when they finally finished Olivia went to go eat dinner while Abigail worked on fixing Olivia's drawing up.
