You wake up the next morning in a beautiful bedroom. You turn to look around but Tony isn't there. On the floor beside the bed is a small madras with a blanket curled up beside it. He slept on the floor so you could sleep in the bed. There are some clean clothes laid out for you on a chair. You reach out to grab the shirt. It's Tony's, it has the stark logo on it. You can't help but laugh a little at the irony of it all.You roam through the giant mansion looking out over the view from the balcony. It's absolutely stunning watching as the waves come crashing against the cliff side..
"Good-morning sleepyhead" Tony chuckles as he stands beside you.
"Morning" you smile. "It's beautiful out here"
Tony looks out over the coast. "I guess I never really realized that" he says with a subtle smile on his lips as he looks over at you. "I never appreciate the beautiful things in front of me"
"You should...one day they could be gone.." you say with a hint of sadness.
"Breakfast?" Tony asks trying to cheer up the mood.
"It's almost noon" you grin.
"Well how about breakfast for lunch then?" He smirks.
You squint your eyes, before nodding your head. You make your way to the kitchen. Everything about this place is over the top. The two of you are both miserable at cooking, but you make it work. Creating something that tastes like pancakes but looks a bit more like scrambled eggs.
"So what do you do?" You ask, mouth full of scrambled pancakes.
"I do what I'm destined to.. run my father's company, manufacturing weapons" Tony explains.
"You don't seem so fond of the idea" you deduct, from his choice of words.
"It's what I'm good at building stuff" he scoffs.
"Can I see?" You ask excitingly.
"You really want to?" He asks confusedly.
You nod happily as you stuff your mouth with the remaining pancakes. Following him downstairs.
As the door slips open you see the most advanced laboratory you've ever seen. To be fair you haven't stepped foot in one since your time with the Strategic, homeland, intervention, enforcement logistics division. And technology was improving, to think you could make phone calls with a small device in your pocket was unbelievable to you.You look through the projects scattered all over the room as your eyes stumble upon something you haven't seen in years. Steve's shields.. more specifically the ones you never used. You pick up one clinging onto it for suspiciously long.
"A big Captain America fan I see" Tony sighs slightly disappointed.
"I guess you could say that" you smile sadly. Putting the shield back where you found it. "You don't like him?"
"I hate him.. he was all my father talked about" he scoffs. You try not to be offended.. It's not easy living in someone's shadow. "He spend years of his life searching for him, he always said he did it for a friend.. I think he wanted his lab rat back"
"He really tried" you whisper to yourself.
"What?" Tony asks, he heard you.
"Seems hard" you say hoping to save it. "Living in someone's shadow"
"Lying again are we?"
"No"
"You so are"
You playfully push him aside continuing to search through the projects. "I should probably get going soon"
