Alex
"Jax, what are you doing this weekend?" When I get no response, I elbow Jax in the side. "Jax, Jax, Jax!" Finally, he turns to me, looking excited.
"Alex, look. . .forward." When I do, I see a large crowd gathered at the far end of the hallway. I'm about to ask Jax what's up, but he's already explaining. "There's this new girl in my first period, and she's really cool! Well, actually, I haven't talked to her, but get this. She's. . .different. She wears skinny jeans and a black tank top with black converses. Here's the coolest part, she's got a lot of scars on her knuckles, and when another boy in class asked her why they were there, she just shrugged and 'reasons'." He jumps up to see over the crowd. When he's back, he gives me a shocked look.
"Dude," he says, "the new girl and Marcus are about to go off on each other." What. A girl facing off against Marcus, the eighth grade bully? Now this I have to see. Grabbing Jax's arm, I drag him to the front of the crowd. What I see in front of me makes me want to laugh, but I can't even close my gaping mouth.
Marcus is in crab walk position while the girl that Jax had described stands over him. "What did you say to me?," the new girl asks. Her voice is low and threatening. She has long blond hair and black knuckle gloves. Marcus looks a bit shaky.
"I said give me your lunch money," Marcus says. The girl narrows her eyes.
"You looking for a fight? Fine. You can have one. You, me, five o'clock. Be there." Marcus stands from the floor and shakes her hand.
"Oh don't worry Ellie, I'll be there. "
