It was a hot summer day when Damian found himself doing absolutely nothing. He sat at his table, his hazel eyes looking out of his rounded window taking in the scenery of the distant yellow sun that was perched high in the sky.
He blinked boredly, his hands running through his light brown hair as he barged his summer homework away from him, the papers scattering all over the floor in an unflattering manner.
He gave a heavy sigh.
Time seemed to pass so slowly on days like this, the clock on his wall continuously ticking, each and every second causing him to recoil in disgust. What was the point of all of this anymore? Summer break had turned into a blank space to him. There was no point in him doing anything, there wasn't anything he really wanted to do anyway.
Sure, he could always hit up his friends to do something but he was getting tired of being in their company. Emilie and Ewen only seemed to talk about the same thing when they were around him. It was never something new, still the same old topic of interest.
Girls. Girls. Girls.
He had always enjoyed talking to his friends before this reoccurring topic. They filled the void he felt because of his lack of family, his dad on business trips almost all the time, but recently, he needed space.
If there was any topic Damian hated talking about, it was girls. Each time he heard his friends talking about them he felt that same impatient, uncomfortable feeling growing in his soul. It was a constant reminder of how he had a girl he liked too and how, unlike them, he was yet to make an attempt to be with her.
Anya.
She was someone he had grown to admire over the years. She was someone who made his eyes linger when she passed him by in the hallway, she made him pay more attention in class when she spoke and made him nervous when she was around him.
She was consistently smart and thoughtful, pretty and cordial. She also had the most adorable smile he'd ever seen...seen from afar that was, he'd never seen her smile at him.
He wanted her to smile at him though. One day.
His eyes stared down at his phone as he looked at the date.
August 15.
It was the middle of August and he found that the countdown to his senior year was just beginning. He was already dreading the immense workload that would be put on his shoulders as soon as September hit.
He sighed heavily, his head leaning on the desk in front of him.
Was there any way this summer could get any better?
His phone seemed to reply his question, a 'ding' sound causing him to look towards the electronic.
He sat up slowly, supporting his weight with his elbow as he flipped his phone over to look at the screen.
Ewen: You are coming to Becky's party right?
Damain's eyes widened as he blinked rapidly leaning closer to the screen to see if his eyes were playing tricks on him. A party?
The text seemed to joggle his memory as he remembered the invitation he had been given a month ago.
His eyes widened considerably.
He had forgotten about that event.
Damian: it's today right?
Ewen: You forgot didn't you?
Damian didn't respond to the text as he switched off his phone and leaned back in his chair staring up at the ceiling.
While he wasn't particularly interested in going to a party, he was interested in seeing what it would be like. He wanted to be in that atmosphere again, maybe it would help him to clear his mind of all the things that were running through it.
Most of all, knowing it was Becky's party there was no doubt she would be there as well.
There was no way he was going to miss this opportunity.
Damian got up deciding two things at once: he was going to attend the party tonight, and he was also going to take that clock off the wall, that ticking sound was so annoying.
