Let me introduce myself. I'm Ava Smith. I just moved to London, England from California, United States. It is really my fault we moved because last summer I was in a shark attack and lost my left arm. They said my calmness saved my life because if I were to freak out, I would of died immediatly. I love to surf but ever since we moved, there is no ocean at all around London! Its always raining and cold where in Cali its always warm, and sunny. I have blonde hair and fairly tan skin but its starting to fade with the lack of sun.
Everywhere I go, I get weird looks and it's 10x harder. I can't play my gutiar, zip and button up my pants, cut anything with a knife without dropping anything, open a jar that it twist up, and a lot more. It's awful and once in California my two brothers were working and my parents were getting my pain medication so I decided to get food from the store and I dropped everything and no one would even acknowledge my presence and try to help me.
I was walking down the streets of London with my new best friend Millie because my brother, Kevin's birthday is coming up and I wanted to buy him a present. She is showing me some guy stores that could be in my price range.
"Here's Topshop, there is a boys' section and a girls' section. You go look in the boy section and I'm going to look in the girl section for myself." She smiled striding away from me and I sighed walking into the boys section just to get some odd stared from the guys in here. I used my one arm to rearrange my hair so it wasnt in my face and starting looking through the racks of clothes until I found a perfect work shirt for him. I also decided to get a wallet because Kevin hasn't shut up about his wallet breaking because he got one like two years ago in Cali.
I took the two items and sat down on a little bench inside of the store and pulled my wallet out. Let me tell you, its really hard just taking money out of your wallet with just one hand.
"Need some help love?" I heard a deep voice ask and I looked up to be met with a gorgeous pair of bright green eyes.
"Yes please." I nodded and he smiled sitting next to me and taking my wallet and pulling out the correct amount of money plus tax.
"Thank you so much. I would of been here for like an hour doing that." I smiled at him and he nodded.
"What's your name love?" He asked staring into my hazel eyes.
"Ava. What's yours?" I asked moving my gaze from his eyes back to the money in my hand.
"I'm Harry, if you don;t mind me asking, why don't you have a left arm?" He asked looking straight at it. I knew that this question was coming. Everytime I talk to a person new that's the first thing that comes out of their mouth.
"I used to live in California and I got in a shark attack." I told him looking at him face to see his eyes dart off my shoulder to my eyes.
"Really? Are you okay now?" He asked and I nodded.
"It's just so hard you know?" I asked and he had a little smile tugging on his lips.
"I can bet, I mean you need two arms for a lot of things." He lightly laughed.
"Yeah, I can barely button my own pants without the help of someone else." I said in a joking tone even though I was being completely serious.
"Here come on, let me help you pay because I think I would be going to far if I asked if you needed help buttoning up your jeans." He laughed and I nodded standing up putting the shirt around my neck and shoving the money in my pocket, and grabbing my wallet in my hand.
"Wow, do you need some help carrying that?" He asked with a surprised look on his face and I laughed.
"No no. It's okay, I got it." I smiled at how much of a gentleman he was being. He just smiled removing the shirt from my neck and holding it in his hand. I smiled up at him as we walked up the register to pay. When I was finished I was just about to thank Harry for helping me when four other good-looking guys came up to us.
"Hey Haz! Woah who's this?" One guy with a buz cut asked slapping Harry on the back.
"Yeah! And why doesn't she have an arm? Like hello? Are you trying to make a fashion statement?" Another one asked with his light brown his swooping his forehead and I just looked at the space where my arm is supposed to be.
"Lads! Stop being rude! This is Ava, and she lost her arm in a shark attack." Harry said and I looked back up to see them all cracking up.
"Yeah right! And I'm an alien, there are no sharks around here. Where did you pull that out of love? Your arse?" The same one asked and I quickly grabbed my bag of items I bought Kevina nd put my wallet in there.
"Bye Harry." I mumbled and quickly walked out of the store to just get turned around again and facing Harry.
"Listen Ava, my mates are not usually like that. I don't know why they were being so rude to you and it was really uncalled for. Can I please take you out tonight and show you what a real gentleman is?" He asked and I debated on whether I should go. I mean he is really the only one who helped me in a year with my struggles, so why not.
"Okay." I nodded and a huge smile appeared on his face.
"Great, so can I have your number?" He asked and handed me his phone so I could put my number in it and I handed it back to him.
"So tonight at 6:00? Dress fancy." He smiled kissing my cheek and walking away and my phone vibrated with a message from an unknown number.
'Can't wait for tonight. -Harry xx'
