"Florence! What can I get you today?" Josh, your co-worker greets Florence as she walks into the small café you work at. "Nothing for me today" she gave him a friendly smile, "I'm just here to meet Y/n and grab some lunch" she added. "Sounds fun, I'll just go get her for you, she's doing stock take in the back!" he smiled back before wandering off to find you.
"Y/n" he spoke as you wrote down in the note bad. "Yeah?" you mumbled slightly. "Florence is...here," he said with a small pause. "Oh shit! Is it lunchtime already?!" you checked your watch. "Yeah" the young man mumbled. "Are you sure you'll be alright to watch the café?" you asked, placing the notepad down. Josh nodded, giving you an assuring smile.
"Hi darling" Florence smiled once she saw you appear, "hello there" you kissed her lips softly, "Are you hungry?" she asked, you nodded desperately, "starving!" you groaned. "Have a great lunch" Josh butted in before playfully slapping your backside. Florence glared at him as you laughed "you've gotta stop doing that!" you pointed to the CCV cameras. Josh shrugged, "what's the worse that could happen? They fire me?" he laughed. You noticed Florence's unimpressed look and suggested you guys head to lunch.
You and Florence went to one of your favourite take out places, your lunch break was only an hour-long so a proper meal in a restaurant was out of the question. "Are you okay Flo?" you asked as the two of you walked the nearby park looking for a bench to sit at. "Yep, just fine" she mumbled, you knew she was lying.
"Flo" you stopped in your tracks, "don't lie to me, what's wrong" you added. Florence sighed before turning to look at you. She looked hurt and suddenly you knew where this was headed. "It's Josh," she said clearly.
"Baby, he's just a co-worker"
"Do you always allow him to be so flirtatious around you?"
"No...what? Florence he's just a guy I work with, I promise"
Florence bit her bottom lip in frustration, "You're naive if you think he just wants to be your friend" she said before continuing to walk.
"Florence, you know I'm not interested in him" you fastened your steps to catch up to her.
"But he's interested in you, and he makes that extremely clear. You don't even tell him off for it, you just laugh and play along. Do you see how that hurts? Look I'm just going to go home, I'll see you later, okay?"
"Florence, wait!" you begged
"Y/n, I just need some time alone. I'll see you when you get home, have a good rest of your shift" she said sternly before walking away. Watching Florence walk away like that hurt but also angered you. You never really noticed that maybe Josh was being more than just friendly. You walked back to work and ate there instead.
"You're back early," Josh said, sliding into the chair across from you. "Well, we had a fight" you mumbled. "Oh..." Josh looked at you, "are you okay?" he followed. "Yeah, we will be, I hope" I sighed. Josh slowly placed his hands on top of yours "you deserve better, you know...right?" he said softly. Quickly I pulled my hands away from his and frowned, he looked up at me with worried eyes. "What do you think you're doing?!" I spat.
"I...I just...I just thought-"
"You thought what?! That Florence and I had one argument and it gives you the okay to make a move?"
"No, Y/n...that's not....I just...I was just being friendly" he stuttered.
"Josh, we thought because of you. I really need you to be honest with me" I spoke sternly. He nodded in response, "do you have feelings for me?" I asked bluntly. Josh shallowed harshly before answering, "Yes... I do, I think you're great and I just....I just don't like how Florence treats you sometimes. I think you deserve better" he admitted.
"You're actually kidding me, right?! Josh, you know nothing about my relationship with Florence nor do you know me. We work together, that's it. I don't appreciate you assuming Florence treats me badly when she's the most loving person I have ever been with and I certainly don't appreciate the way you act around me when she's around! It's extremely disrespectful"
"Y/n, I'm sorry... I didn't mean any harm.."
"I'm going to go home to my girlfriend, okay? Don't call me for ridiculous shit like you do and please from now on, back off." You stood up and left before he could say another word.
You got home to Florence cooking which made you smile softly to yourself. "Florence" you spoke as you entered the kitchen, she looked at you with red eyes. "Baby," you said softly, quickly pulling her into a tight hold. "You have nothing to worry about" you kissed the top of her head once she wrapped her arms around you tightly.
"I'm sorry about before" she spoke after pulling away. Cupping her cheeks with care and looking into her eyes, "You are the only person on this earth I need. I spoke to Josh, I'm so sorry I didn't see it earlier" you kissed her forehead softly causing her to smile softly, "you spoke to him?" she asked. You nodded "I told him to back off, he had no right to make you feel like this. I'm all yours my love, I don't see anybody else, I mean that" you assured her. She pulled you in for a loving kiss. "I love you" she whispered against your lips, "not as much I love you" you smiled.
