Just a warning, there are many time skips in this chapter due to the fact that I wanted to show you what went on in Carolina's day. Hope you enjoy!
I woke up to see my surfboard leaning against the closet, just where I had left it. I rubbed my eyes, where dark circles lay under them. I flopped out of bed and my floor boards squealed under me. Walking to my closet, I got dressed and then glanced back at my clock. 7:43am. I rushed to put on a bathing suit of some sort that didn't match, probably due to the lack of sleep, and almost put my flip flops on backwards.
Trampling down the stairs with my board, I grabbed an orange on the way out. The house was deserted except for the occasional snoring sound of Allison. I rolled my strained eyes. Exiting the house and onto the beach, I began to peel my orange. I arrived by my spot underneath the tree and set my board down. The last orange slice entered my mouth right when I got a text from my mom:
Be home by 3. I have a surprise for you.
I put my phone in my bag I had brought with me and turned to the bright blue ocean. Ever since I learned how to surf, it had absorbed all my thoughts and movements. It was like freedom.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had surfed until 10:30 am. I ringed out my hair as i arrived back on he beach. Few people were in the water. My towel wrapped around me like a burrito, drying my sun-kissed skin. I heard my ringtone from the bottom of my bag, and pulled my phone out.
"hello?" I answered the phone.
"Hey Carolina, it's me, Mackenzie!"
"Hey!"
"what are you doing for lunch?" she asked.
I shook my head. "nothin."
"want to meet at Big Mama's?"
"sure! What time?"
"12?"
"See ya then!" I hung up. The cool breeze blew my damp hair around. I grabbed my new board and bag and headed back to my home to get changed.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Allison was officially up and watching cartoons on our TV in the living room. She grasped a bowl of cereal in her arms. The TV sounded throughout the house as I headed back up into my room. I went to the bathroom with a change of clothes in hand. Setting the clothes down, I then stared into my reflection. Brown eyes stared back. My wet hair looked darker than it normally was, but still the same medium length.My clothes toppled to the floor and the warm water started from the shower head. The heated water droplets rained onto my numb skin. I rubbed the fire like liquid into my body. It felt so refreshing, almost as good as surfing.
(sorry for all the time skips, I just have a lot to put in this chapter :-) )The shopping bags in my hands strained my arms. I held 2 in each hand, making my way to the restaurant to meet Mackenzie. Sun rays blazed into my sunglasses, and on my open stomach. I wore a crop top and short jeans, in addition I wore a bright blue headband that held my fly aways from my long french braid back.
The clear door of the restaurant clinked open and in I walked. I looked around, and spotted Mackenzie at a nearby booth. I sat down and gave a small sigh of relief to finally set my stuff down.
"Hey!" she smiled and sipped on her drink.
"Hey its good to see you again!"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I trudged through the sand with my bags, heading home. It was 2:45 and I still had a ways walk to go. The sun was shining brightly through the shading palm trees. My hair blew in the slight breeze and my braid flopped like a fish on my back as I walked.
I opened the door to the haven of air conditioning and never felt more relieved in my life. I dropped my bags without a care in the world and smiled. I heard noises from the house and looked around to see my mom with her purse and keys. Allison trampled down the stairs with her flip flip flops that were defiantly too big for her feet. She smiled up at me. Her hair was done in a hurry, and she oddly could not stop smiling.
"Mom says she is taking us some where, but it's a surprise!" she jumped up and down. I had been slightly curious about the 'surprise' at hand, but was too busy with my day to stop and think about what it could be.I looked over at my mom who also had a pleasant smile on her face.
"Well, come on let's go!" she said and stepped over my bags and out of the house. We piled in the car and Mom started the engine.There was silence for a moment before Allison blurted out, "Can you at least give us a hint?"
Our mom paused. "Well," she thought. "I decided to do this because I waned you guys to get used to your new home."
I let my brain chew on that. Allison looked out the window and thought hard, I could tell from her expression. I was starting to grow very curious and a bit giddy just thinking about the possibilities. A new car? Fancy restaurant? Shopping spree? My mind fumbled through it's options. I could sense the excitement, anticipation, and slight fear in the car. I mean, it could be anything.
Finally, after driving for 10 minutes, Mom pulled into a building parking lot. I stared through the window, looking for any sign of where we were. Then I saw it.
Sarah's Pet Rescue Center
Allison saw it about the same time I did because we both gasped in unison.
"Mom!" I screamed. "We're getting a pet?!" She nodded from the drivers seat.
After we parked we headed inside the building. I instantly smelled the urine of many animals. I had the urge to pinch my nose. Allison made a gagging sound and we walked through the center speaking no words.
A lady showed us our animal adoption options. "Bird, fish, cat, dog, guinea pig, hamster, you name it, we got it!"
"Hmmmm," our mother glanced at us as she thought.
"Ooh ooh! How about a turtle!" Allison suggested.
"Turtles are boring." I put in.
"how about a puppy?" my mother suggested surprisingly calmly.
"Yeah!"Allison, my mother, the adoption lady, and I walked through the dog area. There were so many to choose from; but I defiantly wanted something that was agile, energetic, and good looking.
I paced from cage to cage, inspecting each dog and it's forum attached to the kennel. As I approached some cages, the dogs began to bark, or try to claw through the cage. Pit-bulls, bulldogs, yorkies, and many more breeds all passed my eyes. I really began to give up; none of the dogs interested me or stood out.
I heard a bark out of the many noises that went through my ears. I tiny powered bark that somehow stole my glance. A little white Maltese puppy, panted up at me. It was one of the tiniest dogs I have ever seen. It's fur was soft as silk and as white as snow. It's beady black eyes drew me in closer and I smiled down at the little thing.
"Hi!" I smiled brighter. How could I have missed this cute little thing. The Maltese yipped again. I stood up and read the paper.
