Prologue

In a test tube within a collapsing laboratory...

...It was cold.

"Quick! We have to evacuate everybody!"

There was nothing but cold water around me.

"Oh god, what have we done?"

I could not think, I could not move, all I could do was sleep.

"The [REDACTED] are en route to the city!"

I don't remember who I was nor what I was meant to do.

"Damn it, there's only one option left."

"Sir, you can't possibl-"

"Can it! We can't let them escape."

The nameless researcher activates a mechanism. A red button is located at the center.

"No matter what."

"T-then, it's been an honour working with you."

"Likewise."

He turns toward the only test tube still unbroken.

"Ciel... I'm sorry."

With the button pressed, everything begins to shake, loud screaming could be heard outside while the people inside the facility could no longer be seen. And then everything went dark. I couldn't even feel a thing.

"..."

Please. Let me out.

"..e up.."

I don't want to be trapped in the darkness...

"...ake up.."

I don't want to die please, let me out!

???: Ciel? It's morning, wake up.

My painful thoughts were broken by a familiar voice.

Ciel: Lani? Ah, good morning. Sorry I overslept.

This woman was Lani Lindhardt, she was an adoptive Mother to me of sorts. She didn't have any children so when I came along she gladly accepted raising me.

Lani: It's alright sweety, I brought you breakfast. Oh and come outside, Jeralt's going to take you hunting remember?

Ciel: Alright, I'll prepare for the day first then.

With a wave she leaves my room, after getting out of bed and putting on simple attire I grab the tray of food Lani had left.

Ciel: Hm, a balanced breakfast.

I ate the food and washed the plates, and I was on my way outside to meet Jeralt. As I exited the small house, I was mesmerized by the view of the town. Despite living here for about two years, it never gets old.

The town itself was situated in the mountains, overlooking the sea. You can say everything here is old fashioned, yet still relying on whatever technology they have to make life simpler.

Although, I can't quite recall how I got here.

All I know is that I was found by local hunters in an abandoned laboratory. There was no one around so they brought me here to Lani and the rest was history.

I sometimes get a little curious as to what my past is, but I'd rather not look back on something that had made me an orphan. I push such thoughts back, and continued travelling around town.

The people here are really nice, not a lick of malicious intent on any of them.
