You would think that Laur had considered the possibility that it was going to be hot. But apparently, her brain doesn't exactly register everything properly. Because here she was, in the middle of the desert, during Coachella, in a full black outfit, that was honestly covering too much in this particular instance. She had felt cute when she first tried it on and planned it out. But she was heavily regretting her choice right now. Not only did she stand out as a sore thumb, seeing as everyone was wearing colorful outfits, but she was also quite frankly sweating her tits off. She briefly considered going back to change, but she quickly realized that she would miss too many artists that way, making her only option, to grin and bear it."I just don't understand why you even thought all black was a good idea." Shay told her.
Laur just rolled her eyes in response. "I just don't understand why we're still talking about my outfit choice, yes, I didn't think it through. Can we now move on to a different topic?"
Shay just grinned in response. Letting Laur know that she would never hear the end of it.
"Dude, look. You're not the only one who made a dumb fashion choice." Shay said whilst trying to divert Laurs attention to the blonde man dressed in all black.
Laur immediately noticed him, he looked to be suffering just as much as her. During the rest of the set her attention kept coming back to him. A couple of times Laur caught him staring as well.
"Can you please, please, please come with me to find the bathrooms?" Shay begged Laur. Laur sent Shay a side-eye. Figuring she should give her a hard time, before eventually agreeing. But before she even got the chance to respond, she felt someone tap her shoulder.
"I like your outfit." The blonde man who was suffering the same fate as Lauren said. He had a bright smile on his face. Laur felt her face light up in response.
"I could say the same to you," she responded, "it's a really brave choice, considering, well, everything."
"Ha, yeah. You would think that I realized that this was not desert appropriate. But I guess you didn't really think it through either." The man said in return.
"Well, you know what they say." Laur said.
"Uhm, I don't think I do actually."
"Fashion over comfort." Laur grinned at the stranger in front of her.
"Yeah, well we definitely achieved the fashion department. We are easily the best dressed." He responded, his voice dripping in sarcasm.
"Hey, I didn't catch your name. I'm Laur." Laur said whilst reaching her hand out.
"I'm Michael. It's nice to meet you, Laur." Michael responded.
"And I," Shay started, "am going to look for the bathroom. Laur, I'll text you where to find me." Feeling she had overstayed her welcome, she left the pair to chat on their own.
"So, Laur, what do you do?" Michael asked her.
She liked that he seemed to show genuine interest in her. "I write songs. Well and sing and perform them." she responded.
"Wait, for real? So do I!" His excitement over finding something in common was apparent.
"Yeah, I know." Laur replied, chuckling at Michael's reaction. "Believe it or not, but I actually do know who 5 Seconds of Summer are."
A slight blush appeared on Michael's face. "Ah, didn't see that one coming. You're a fan?" he seemed unsure about how to continue the conversation. Not certain of how she felt towards him and his band.
"Dude, are you kidding? I literally love your music. I was secretly bummed that you guys weren't performing here." Laur responded. Michael visibly relaxed.
"Are you a solo artist? What sort of music do you make? Wait, do I know any of your songs?" Michael rattled all questions in a quick tempo, overwhelming the girl.
"Yes and no. I partially make solo music, but I also make music with my friend, Shay, the one who just went to the bathroom." Laur said whilst pointing in the direction that Shay had run off to. "And I honestly don't have a specific genre I stick to. I just go with what feels right for each specific song and project." Laur got more enthusiastic as she went on about music. Michael stared at her in awe. He loved the way her face lit up and how she truly seemed passionate about her music.
"Dude! Yes! I totally agree on staying true to the project." Michael responded. "What are some of your favorite artists, or like inspirations?" Michael asked in an attempt to keep the conversation going.
"Well, 5 Seconds of Summer, obviously." Laur started in return.
"Obviously." Michael returned, his sarcasm easy to pick up.
"And, well, I like a lot of artists. But I like Nirvana and Led Zeppelin. Oh, and I also really like the Wallows." Laur continued.
The pair continued their conversation, completely losing track of time. Until the conversation got interrupted by Laur's phone going off. She quickly answered the phone, regretting that decision almost immediately.
"DUDE! WHERE ARE YOU? YOU ABANDONED ME!" Shay cried into the phone. Laur rolled her eyes in response to her antics.
"I'm literally right where you left me, where are you? I'll come find you." Laur sighed, giving Michael an apologetic look. Michael just gave a soft smile in return, not really being bothered by the phone call.
"Okay, yeah sure. I'll come your way. Love you too." Laur said into the phone before hanging up. She turned to Michael with an apology written on her face. "I am so sorry, but my friend is completely codependent on me. It was so nice to meet you and talk to you though."
"All good," Michael responded, "I should probably find my friends as well. Before you run off though, could I at least get your number? I'd love to continue this conversation some other time." He seemed a little nervous, as if he wasn't entirely certain if he'd said the right thing.
"Yes. For sure, I'd love to talk again." Laur responded with a bright smile. She rattled off her digits and gave Michael a hug before turning to leave.
"I'll call you!" Michael called out after her.
Laur turned around and responded. "You better!"
Michael returned back to his friends with the biggest smile on his face, the other 3 boys were confused as to what could have caused their friend to come back so happy when he's been completely miserable in the heat all day.
"What's got you so smiley mate?" Spoke Ashton and Michael giggled and responded "I just met the most amazing girl!" All the three boys could do was smile at their friends happiness.
