riki was on his way home as he was smiling to himself like an idiot.
he kept staring at the chocolate bar in his hand that was given to him by the girl he loved so dearly.
he was falling for her harder each day.

her sweet smile and heavenly eyes were stuck in his head every second of every day.
he didn't mind it,
he loved everything about the girl.

as riki arrived in front of his doorstep a sudden feeling of fear swept away the earlier sweet thoughts.
the lights in the house were on.

riki's father had been away for a few weeks now.
he didn't know where he was.
it was nothing new to him, after all the man hated him with every fiber of his being and treated him like a burden.

riki gulped as he placed his hand on the doorknob.
he had always feared his father.
not because of any particular threaths, but because he feared him.
his being, his aura was all darkness.
he wasn't a good man, neither was he a good father.

riki entered the house before he quickly made his way towards the direction of his room to avoid any interaction with the man.

as he passed the living room he was met with the man's dark figure as he was sitting on a chair with a glass filled with light brown liquid.
he had been drinking.

riki's fear grew as he tried to avoid the man's gaze on him before he began walking past him towards his room.
suddenly the man grabbed his arm to stop him before standing up.

"where do you think you're going, son?
aren't you going to ask your father where he has been?"
the drunken man slurred out as he was eyeing the boy with his usual dark gaze.

riki couldn't look at the man nor speak as the grip he held on his arm was getting tighter.
he could feel his body trembling under the man's touch as the strong smell off alchocol lingered from his heavy breaths.

"huh!? respond when you're being talked to you little-"

suddenly a surge of courage took over riki as he grabbed the man's arm to rip off the grip he had been holding him in.
he turned around to leave the house before he was stopped by his father's loud yell.

"if you go through that door right now, you'll have to find another place to live at!"

riki stopped in his tracks as he could feel his eyes brimming with tears.
he couldn't hold himself back anymore as he let out all the questions he had for the man.

"why do you hate me so much?
what did i ever do to make you despise me like this?"
riki said as he let his tears fall while looking at the man with a strong gaze.

the older man laughed at the boy's words before taking steps closer to him.

"because you dissapoint me.
you deserve to be despised,
you're the reason she isn't here anymore.."

riki felt the rage taking over him at the man's words.
after all these years, he was still the one to be blamed for his mother's death in his father's eyes.

"you know it isn't my fault,
mom wouldn't want this-"

suddenly he could feel a stinging pain on his cheek as the man had slapped him harshly.

"you don't get to talk about her"
the man voiced out before grabbing the boy by his collar.

riki stared into the man's eyes.
there was no love in them.
the longer he kept looking, the more he could feel the emptiness of his gaze.
it was almost like no one was looking back at him.
there wasn't a soul behind the man's eyes.

"dad, was there ever a moment you loved me?
even a small fraction of a second when you looked at me and felt love for your son?"
riki looked into his eyes while the man's grip on his collar was loosening.
for a moment, riki felt like he could see a glimpse of regret in the man's eyes as his expression was unreadable.

suddenly the older man's body collapsed as the boy caught him in his arms.
the man's body felt limp as his eyes were shut while he was barely breathing.
riki was terrified.

this chapter was a bit darker than the previous ones :/

family violence is unfortunately a real issue for many and i hope that anyone struggling with it gets into a safe place away from the fear and pain.
