{Chapter 16}
The four humans and the dog made their way to a nearby ice cream store. They didn't allow dogs or animals inside so Melinda stood outside with Kai. Daisy looked at her mom, "You want anything?" Melinda shook her head, "I'm fine." Daisy nodded as her and Jack walked inside but Aaron stayed back, "You sure you don't want something?"
Melinda smiled at him in assurance, "I'm sure." Aaron hesitated before walking inside with the kids. Kai stood on high alert, as he wanted to make sure his owner/s and the people he liked were safe. Melinda placed a hand on his head as the others came out with their ice cream. They all began walking as Aaron handed Melinda a cup of ice cream.
Melinda looked at him confused, "I didn't want anything." Aaron chuckled, "Something you should know about me, I don't take no for an answer." Melinda took it with a giggle as Jack and Daisy were watching from behind giggling and talking about random things. Aaron looked back for a second before turning back to look at Melinda, "Seeing them together is a great feeling." Melinda looked back as well and turned back with a smile, "Me too."
They found a place to sit and sat down to talk and hang out. Daisy looked at Aaron with curiosity, "So, did Strauss ever tell you about that new desk in the office spaces?" Aaron shook his head as Melinda looked at them confused, "What's wrong?" Aaron looked at her, "It's nothing. Just there's a new desk being placed across from Emily's but next to Daisy's. I asked Strauss about it, but she hasn't told me anything about who was going to sit there." Melinda knew who the desk was for, but promised Strauss she wouldn't say anything until she does.
She just shrugged her shoulders, as Daisy and Jack went back to talking. Aaron looked at Melinda with a sympathetic look, "It isn't the same without you there." Melinda smiled at the praise as he looked at her curiously, "Have you found anything?" Melinda nodded, "I found something to do, but I can't really say anything about it, because it's a private job." Aaron looked confused at that before nodding.
Jack yawned which Aaron saw, "Are you getting tired, bud?" Jack nodded as he rubbed his eyes as Melinda looked at Daisy, "I think it's time we headed back. You both have work in the morning."
Daisy nodded before turning to hug Jack as Aaron turned to Melinda, "Get home safe."
She chuckled, "I will. Both of us will. We got Kai and Daisy and I can fight. You and Jack get home safe, as well."
Daisy waved at Aaron as her and Melinda walked away. Aaron waved back at Daisy before taking Jack home.
