It wasn't like most days, when I woke up today I felt cold and chilly as if I have been sitting outside on a side walk for hours during the night... In Rhode Island sitting on the side walk alone makes you look like a burn out. As I sat in bed with "the perks of being a wallflower" in my hands I hear my phone start to ring..
"Hello?"
"Look outside."
I knew the voice anywhere. Lounging in my flannel pajama pants and black cami, I peeked outside to see Danny.
I picked up the phone back up to my ear and laughed. "Give me a minute"
I searched my closet for a shirt to where to try to not look disgusting but, of course I threw on the black sofee's I had laying in the corner of my room and dodgeball shirt with my warn out converse. I ran outside and saw Danny. I wasn't surprised to see him because, this wasn't anything new... He talked to me like any other friend. The thing was I didn't think of him as any other friend, I thought of him as so much more until that one night... Sitting under a street light in our neighborhood talking about what good we can do for the world as we passed a cigarette between our fingers. He was the only one that understood me, as we talked under the street light the time flew by and he stopped and looked at me with wide big hazel eyes and said
"Why are we doing this?"
I blew out the smoke from the cigarette and looked at him..
"I wanna mean something."
"Smoking is gonna do that for you?"
I got the cigarette and rubbed it into the cement, I was gonna turn right then and pull myself up to him like in a movie where we would make out, but instead I turned to glare at him, and it wasn't until then I knew he didn't understand me at all.
"You don't get it" I said angrily and louder then I had planned
"Rose." Danny said softly, I turned my head as my eyes watered up. That's when it happened.
