I felt as if my body was to collapse after walking miles from Charlotte. My legs felt close to numb and my lungs were stinging from inhaling the brutal cold air. I had about 4 miles left until I reached Concord. I took a quick break by an old camp site and ate lunch, which consisted of two bagels I snagged off a shelf in the old Charlotte bakery. While eating I noticed the blood rusting into the barrel of my Glock.
After a two hour walk I've made it to Concord just before sunset. Glad I made it in time. I pulled out the map and looked at the bright red X on Concord. I was definitely in the right place. Looking at the back of the map o see etched in black crayon. "Cabarrus College of Health Sciences." I knew where to head next.
The entrance of the school was horrifically torn apart. A gaping hole above the doors of the college revealed what used to be a large window. I feel a shiver down my spine as I walk in, with only the echo of my feet crushing the glass under me.
Flashlight in one hand and crimson red Bowie knife in the other I descend further into the dark hallways of the college. Nothing. Why would Alex bring me here? Maybe his children aren't here anymore. Maybe they went to go look for their dad.
As soon as these thoughts came to me I heard footsteps from behind me, making me swing back as fast as I could. A little girl. She had long brown hair, dark skin, and a bright smile. Just like the girl in the picture. "Hi there," she said with her eyes glued to mine. "What's your name?" "Dexter," I responded. "And you?"
"Rosetta. My names Rosetta. Pleased to meet you, sir."
I reach into my pocket to try and find the picture. "So, Rosetta, do you happen to be thi-"
I was stopped by the clang of metal striking me across my head and I fall to the ground, blacking out slowly and painfully. The last thing I heard was "I will explain everything," from Rosetta, as everything went dark.
