I met Kylie at her locker after fourth period and we went to the cafeteria together. When we arrived there, she brought me right over to her lunch table that she told me she sat at every year.
Another girl was there too. She had long, curly brown hair that perfectly complemented her caramel skin. Her eyes were brown and she gave off a very welcoming vibe.
"Hi, I'm Lisa", she said in a really laid back tone.
"Alexis", I replied and sat down. We talked all through lunch and I got to know them a lot better.
Lisa seemed pretty cool and super chill, in contrast to Kylie's preppy and hyper self. Kylie told her about my encounter and she was just as surprised as Kylie.
After lunch, we went out separate ways after exchanging numbers. When I got to fifth period, I looked around the classroom.
I recognized one of the boys who was in the group with Josh was there. His face lit up when he saw me and he waved at me. I looked behind me to make sure that he wasn't smiling at someone else, but there was no one else there. I walked over to him with a confused look on my face.
"You're the girl from the hall! That was pretty sick by the way", he said digging through his bag for a pen.
"Umm, thanks...............",I said and sat down at a desk a couple away from his. Then he moved seats and sat right next to me.
"What're you doing?" ,I ask him
"The name is Derek. And you are?"
"Alexis", I replied.
"How about Lexi?", he asked and I looked at him. The only people that can call me Lexi are the people that are really close to me.
"No. Alexis", I said and then took my notebook out.
"Lexi, it is", he said as the teacher walked into the class and introduced himself.
The rest of the class was also spent learning the class ruled and then at the end, he gave us some free time to talk.
"So", Derek began, "how's life?". He turned to face me with a big goofy smile.
"Why are you being so nice to me? Shouldn't you be like hating me or something?", I asked chuckling.
"Well, I think you're cool. We don't have one mind in our group. We have three", he said and I got confused.
"I thought there were four of you"
"Well, I don't have a brain so", he said and we laughed. I guess I was wrong to assume all of them were as much of a jerk as Josh.
When the bell rang, I looked at my schedule. I had a free period and I mentally decided to go to the library and use my laptop.
On my way to the library, I stopped at my locker to grab my laptop and when I closed it, someone startled me. I almost shrieked then I realized it was Lisa.
"Wow, okay. I didn't think you got scared easily", she said laughing and I smiled I relief.
"Well, I do. Do you have a free period?", I asked and she nodded her head.
"Yeah, I was just heading down to the library"
"So was I",I added and she smiled at me.
We talked as we were walking to the library. When we got there, we sat at a ta me and started talking and quickly got hushed by the librarian and giggled. Being around Kylie and Lisa made me want to keep that happy feeling in my chest.
"You know, the group isn't completely horrible. I don't think so anyway.........", Lisa said and I shot her a skeptical look.
"They seem kinda horrible to me"
"Only Josh is a true asshole, the rest are just asswipes",she explained and I chuckled silently.
"That Derek guy seems fun", I said hoping to get a response that would tell me if he's actually a jerk or not.
"Yeah, Derek is a good and a player though. Hayden throws really good parties but I'm really sure he throws them just to hook girls. And Ryan just joined them last year. He joined this school last year too. He doesn't really do anything and to be honest, I don't think they like him that much", she told me receiving another hush from the librarian, who kind of reminded me of the slug women from Monsters Inc......
Lisa and I held in our laughter and resumed our conversation.
"Why do you say that?", I whispered.
"I don't know. You can just kind of tell, you know", she said and I nodded understandingly.
"What do you have next?", I asked.
"English. You?"
"AP Biology" I said and she looked disappointed.
When the bell rang, we sighed and got up. We went out separate ways to our lockers.
When I walked into Biology, I froze in my place. I locked eyes with the same blue ones as earlier. Josh.
His face was straight and it lacked emotion but I had a feeling that if I could read his face,it would show pure hatred.
I tried swallowing the lump in my chest ,to no avail.
While he looked like an Abercrombie model sitting at his desk, I broke our gaze and went to sit at the empty desk at the back of the classroom. I didn't dare look back as I sat down.
Seconds later,the teacher walked in.
"Good Afternoon, class. I hope y'all had a good summer. I'm Mr Budge, your Biology teacher for this year",he said and smiled around the room.
Why did all the teachers keep saying what subject they were going to teach? Apparently,we students weren't smart enough to figure out what we had in our schedule.........
He continued,"Although,I know that you guys must like sitting next to your friends. I'm afraid,I must assign seats". Everybody let out a groan.
Shit. I started to get nervous when he made us all stand up. "Alexis Young.........there",he said pointing to the back left corner desk.
I went and sat down at the two person desk anxiously waiting for who my seat partner was going to be.
"Josh Monroe". I assumed he pointed to a seat somewhere at the back as I looked down at my desk, hoping he didn't sit in the chair next to me.
I got a breath of relief that I didn't know I was holding when Mr Budge moved onto the next name "Padgett Sawyer, there". As he finished saying that, I heard someone sit in the seat next to me.
I moved my head to see what Padgett looked like, only to find myself choking on air. Sitting next to me was slightly blue Josh, glaring down at the desk.
