Chapter 1: Finding Each Other

3 year old Luz Noceda sat all alone on the playground bench. She had a lot of candies and snacks with her but they were left untouched on the side. A sad look rest on her face as she thought about what people said about her.

"Hey is that the girl?"

"Yes, she's the one..."

Her sadness grows as more of those memories flooded her mind.

"Look it's that kid again, I wish she would just go away!"

"She's nothing but trouble, you better stay away from her"

Tears started to form in her eyes, she remembered what happened during her first day at the kindergarten.

"Why is she always alone, doesn't she have any friends?"

"Friends? Who would wanna be friends with her?"

"She's nothing but a weirdo, a total loser if you will"

"How about we give her a little lesson?"

Luz started to cry at the painful memories. Unbeknownst to her someone was watching from behind. But Luz eventually noticed as leaves could be heard crunching behind her.

Frantically wiping her tears, she looked behind "Hi, is someone there?"

No response

"I can hear you behind me, you're not as hidden as you think you are"

The mystery person stepped out from behind a tree. It turns out to be a girl around Luz's age, possibly one year younger than her. The girl slowly approached her "I don't get it, why does everyone avoid you?"

Luz was now the one with no response, as the girl stops a feet away from the bench.

"Are you sick or something?"

"Wh- Who are you?"

"My name's Anne, Anne Boonchuy"

"Mine's Luz, Luz Noceda"

"Do you mind if I sit with you?"

"Uh...no I won't mind, go ahead"

Anne went to sit beside Luz on the bench. Luz offered her some snacks which she happily accepts. Luz was quite surprised at how Anne was okay with being around her, something the puffy haired girl noticed.

"Are...are you okay?"

"Aren't you afraid to be with me?"

Anne was confused "What? Why should I?"

"Well...everyone else have been avoiding me because they think I'm weird, they think I don't belong around them. Which is why I'm surprised that you wanna talk with me"

Anne was even more confused "What do you mean? I don't think you're weird at all. You're just a girl like me.
And I wanna talk to you because...well I don't have anyone else to talk to" a sad look now appears on her face

"Really?"

"Yeah, people think that I'm a pathetic weakling and I couldn't defend myself. Everyone at kindergarten made fun of me and I spend most of my time alone while I'm outside of my home. I was afraid that you would think the same as them which is why I hid behind the tree, but then I noticed how you were sitting alone which is why I peeked a little"

"WHAT?! That's ridiculous, you're not a weakling!" Luz's outburst caught Anne off guard

"Whoa calm down!"

Luz calmed back down "Sorry. It's just...I'm used to people hating me and mocking me, but when I heard that someone else was getting the same treatment, I couldn't help but get upset at that. It's like if you're gonna hate someone, hate me and no one else"

A soft smile appeared and Anne puts a hand on Luz's shoulder "Hey don't say that, it's alright, I understand. I kinda felt the same way when you told me about what they thought of you. But I guess I managed to suppress my anger"

A moment of silence happened before Luz asked her "So that's why you wanted to talk to me, because I'm just like you"

"Not just talk, I wanna hang out with you as well. You seem like a cool and interesting girl while I'm just lame and uninteresting"

"Hey don't say that about yourself! You are not lame"

"Yeah sure"

"No I'm serious, you are not okay. You are amazing, I'm sure you are"

"Yeah I am probably. Same goes to you too Luz, people may call you a weirdo, but to me you're the best weirdo"

Luz smiled "I guess us weirdos stick together huh?"

Suddenly Luz's stomach growled causing her to laugh sheepishly "I guess I haven't eaten much of the snacks yet..."

Both of them laughed as they spend the rest of the day sharing stories of their families between each other, the happier side of school, and their future goals and dreams. While talking both couldn't help but feel happy and warm around each other. They finally met someone who doesn't hate them and want to talk to each other. It seems like this is it, as the sun starts to set on the horizon, both girls knew that

"I finally found a friend!"
