Summary:
"Unfortunately, there's one thing you haven't accounted for," said Alver.
Taylor cocked his head.
Alver smirked. "The Healing Star is a part of me," he said, gesturing to his whole body. "I don't think you know what you're asking for."
Taylor frowned a bit. "Are you refusing my offer, then?" he asked softly.
"No," said Alver. He leaned forward across the table and placed a hand on Taylor's thigh.
Taylor flinched, and he looked up to meet the prince's amused eyes. "Oh."
"Oh, indeed."In which the Healing Star has... specific conditions for it to be used.Notes:For .
Happy birthday, Ian! Enjoy your almost-canon Tayver.
(See the end of the work for.)
Staring at the cup of tea on the table, Taylor Sten wondered if he should have asked Kage to come along. He didn't know how to refuse the prince politely when Taylor was the one who asked for his audience in the first place.
Crown Prince Alver smiled at him genially. He sipped his tea luxuriously, eyes fluttering shut as he savored the jasmine.
Then, he set the teacup down on the saucer and slid it across the table to Taylor's side, taking Taylor's cup away in one smooth motion.
"It isn't poisoned," said Alver. "You can have my own cup if it would bring you peace of mind."
A small mark was left on the edge of the cup where the prince's lips touched it.
"Thank you kindly," said Taylor.
He hadn't thought that the prince would poison him, but after what happened with his own siblings, the only person Taylor could trust was Kage—and that was because Kage had sworn a Vow of Death for him, upon her own insistence.
The prince could have taken an antidote beforehand, but somehow, he didn't strike Taylor as the type to do something so blatantly underhanded.
No. Taylor eyed the prince as he leaned over to grab the cup. The prince would be more clever than that.
Taylor drank the tea.
He did not die.
"Now then, tell me what you came here for," said Alver. He crossed his legs and steepled his hands, the picture of sophistication and dominance.
"May I be frank, sir?" asked Taylor. The prince allowed it with a nod. "I know that you have an Ancient Power, The Healing Star. I'd like to make a bargain for it."
Alver's eyes narrowed. He had no need to ask what Taylor would use it for—the man's wheelchair spoke for itself. However...
"What are you offering?" he asked, curious.
"My support once I become the marquess," Taylor replied. His voice confidently rang throughout the room. "I will support you in your bid to become king, Your Highness. I know a thing or two about upstart younger siblings."
Alver's blue eyes met Taylor's pale green ones. The slight nervousness that the nobleman had before was gone, replaced by firm faith in his own skills.
Taylor continued before he could lose this momentum.
"By entrusting me with the power that you are unlikely to use, you will strengthen us both. My brother Venion supports the second prince, my other younger siblings the third. If any of my siblings becomes the marquess, they are sure to turn on you with all the venom a red snake holds."
And Taylor had just as much venom as they did.
"You're saying they would attack me," said Alver. "That's treason, you understand."
