When Astrid arrived at the bowling alley, everyone was already there and getting their shoes. She went to the front desk, paid for herself and her shoes then headed on down to the lane that Lydia chose. She sat down on one of the chairs and put on her bowling shoes. Astrid saw Allison standing by the bowling balls. She decided to go over to her.
'Hey.'
'Hi!' She smiled. Astrid looked away when she felt herself blush. God. She's beautiful.
'Thanks for inviting me.' Astrid said.
'Of course.' Allison grabbed a bowling ball from the shelf. Astrid stood there awkwardly. Come on, Astrid. Think of something. 'You look very pretty, by the way.' Allison said.
'Thank you. So do you.'
'Thank you.' She walked back over to the lane.
Astrid stood there by herself for a moment, smiling to herself. Then she grabbed a bowling ball and walked over to the lane.
'Okay,' Lydia started. 'It goes me, then Stiles, Malia, Scott, Alli, then Astrid.' Lydia looked around at everyone as they agreed. Then she got up and grabbed her bowling ball. Her first shot didn't go well. She knocked down only three pins. Then, as she went again, she slipped a bit and it went in the gutter. 'Damn.' She whispered.
'You'll get it next time, Lyds.' Allison said.
Stiles got up next. First shot didn't go well, but the second got a spare. Then Malia. She missed the first shot as it went in the gutter. The next only knocked down three pins.
'It's okay, babe. You'll get 'em next time.' Stiles said to Malia. She faked a smile. Scott went next. Scott missed the first shot. But then he got a strike the next.
'Woah. Dude. First strike of the evening.' Stiles said.
Scott sat back down with a smile. Then Allison got up. Astrid was excited to see her bowl. She got up, and she rolled, and got a perfect strike. 'Yes!' She said. Then she said back down.
'Woah.' Astrid said. 'That was...perfect.'
'Thanks. You're up.'
Astrid was nervous. She didn't want to look like a complete fool in front of Allison. She wiped the sweat from her palms onto her jeans and stood up. She grabbed her bowling ball and stood just in front of the bowling lane. She took in a deep breath and just hoped she didn't suck.
The first throw was bad - she knocked down only two pins. She slapped her forehead. Great job, Astrid. You just completely embarrassed yourself. She went and grabbed her bowling ball and mentally prepared herself once more. Then she threw her bowling ball. This time knocking down five pins. Making a total of seven knocked down pins. Wow. Perfect. Astrid went back over, trying to avoid everyone's gazes.
'Hey.' Allison said. 'Don't feel bad. It's only the first round. You'll get it.' She smiled at her and suddenly she felt very calm. All she needed to do was try to relax.
**
With only three rounds left, Allison was in the lead, Stiles second, then Scott, Astrid, Lydia and lastly Malia. It was Lydia's turn. And she bowled a perfect strike. Knocking Astrid from fourth to fifth.
Stiles was up. Knocking six pins down. Then up was Malia, getting a spare and scoring just over Astrid's score making Malia fifth and Astrid sixth.
Allison turned to Astrid. 'Hey, don't worry. Look,' she pointed to the scoreboard, 'you're getting better. You'll be back up in no time.'
