Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
What's that noise?
I felt like my eyes were bolted shut, I couldn't open them.
I couldn't even move. Not one limb.
Everything aches but my back was by far the worst.
After a struggle, I could finally open my eyes and the first thing I saw was white and sickly green. White floors, white walls, green door, green curtain.
I then saw my small, eight year old body tangled in wires.
I started breathing heavily.
Where was I?
I realized I was all alone in the room.
Where's my mommy? My daddy?
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw somebody familiar through the window to the hallway.
I still couldn't move but I could see him talking to someone.
I finally managed to turn my head and only saw a glimpse of my dad and a man in a white coat before my back and spine began burning. At least that is what it felt like.
I screamed out and the beeping became a lot faster. "Daddy!" I screamed and sobbed. "Daddy!"
I heard rushing footsteps come into the room while I yelled out in pain.
"Gabi, baby."
"3-2-1 and turn!" I felt myself being turned over on my stomach. Then this weird sensation started in my arm then went through my whole body.
I stopped screaming, only whimpering slightly and sobbing, and opened my eyes.
"Daddy?" I croaked out as I saw my dad with red eyes and wet cheeks. He looked exhausted.
"Yeah, sweetie. I'm here." He said softly and grabbed my hand, kneeling down by the bed.
"Where's mommy? What happened?"
He sighed. "Gabi, you and mommy were in an accident. And mommy was hurt so bad so the angels took her away to make her one of them." His lips trembled slightly.
"When will she be back?"
"She won't be back honey. I'm sorry. She's an angel now. She's in heaven, watching over you."
"Oh... She won't come back?" A few tears ran down my face.
"I'm afraid not honey. It's just you and me now."
"Promise?"
He kissed my forehead. "I promise on my life."
