Forbidden forest, May 2nd 1998

Harry Potter, the boy who lived, was tired of living.

Scratch that.

He was tired of surviving.

He never lived what was considered a normal life, he never experienced a healthy childhood, the normal awkwardness of the teenage years, but most of all, he never experienced what it meant to have a family.

His parents were killed when he was only fifteen months old.

Sirius, his godfather, was in Azkaban for the better part of his life and then he became a fugitive, before his life was claimed by Bellatrix when Harry was only fifteen years old.

Remus was also gone, Death had just claimed him.

All of the Marauders were finally together again. But, on the other hand, Harry was left once again Alone.

Sure, the Weasleys claimed him as their own, but since he broke things off with Ginny, something broke in their relationship. They were still cordial with him, but that was it. No more family vibes that he had grown accustomed to.

When Harry walked into the Forbidden forest, during the final battle, he was fully aware that he wasn't coming back.

When Voldemort raised the Elder wand against him and spoked those fateful two wards, Harry watched the Killing curse coming his way with a sense of peacefulness that he never achieved in his entire life.

Then everything became black.

Opening his eyes once again, was something Harry thought wasn't going to happen anymore.

Everything around him was full of light, but somehow Harry instinctively knew that Heaven didn't look like King's Cross Station.

“Harry.” a voice behind him called. The boy turned around and smiled.

“I kind of was expecting it to be Dumbledore”. Harry told truthfully to the newcomer.

“I can see why. With his greater good speeches he seemed wiser than Merlin himself!” the figure laughed.

“Hi mum. I've missed you.” Harry finally said, hugging his mother for the first time since he was a toddler.

“We’ve missed you too, my sweet babyboy.” she hugged him back harder.

After a few minutes in silence, where both mother and son basked themselves in the warm feelings of love, they let go the embrace smiling once again.

“Mom, not that I don't appreciate seeing you again, but what are we doing here? Is this the afterlife?” he asked a little perplexed.

“Of Couse not, Harry. Why would the afterlife look like King's Cross?” her laughter echoed in the silence of the platform. Harry's cheeks reddened and he shrugged a little, after all in all his life he saw weirder things than this.

“No, honey. We are in a sort of a Limbo.” she began to explain with a sweet voice.

“You're not dead yet. You have a choice to make.”

Harry frowned some more. “You have two choices, honey. You can choose to go back or you can choose to move on.” She explained with a sweet smile on her face.

“What would happen if I choose to move on? Would Voldemort win?” He asked concerned about the wizarding world's future.

What would happen to Hermione, Ron, Luna, Neville, the Weasleys, Tonks and the newborn Teddy? He couldn't move on if that meant Voldemort's triumph.

“As you know, honey, Voldemort achieved his immortality by splitting his soul many times. Seven Horcrux to be exact. You already destroyed five of them: the ring, the diary, Ravenclaw's diadem, Slytherin's locket and Hufflepuff's cup. The Horcrux inside of you was destroyed when Voldemort casted the Killing curse that made you come here.”

“What about Nagini?”

“The Snake is still alive” she confirmed.

“Then, I need to go back, mum. I can't let Voldemort win. Teddy can't live in fear or even be killed because of his blood.”

“But you don't want to.” she said, smiling at her son. It wasn't a question, they both knew how Harry was tired to fight.

“But I have to.”

Lily woefully sighed and kissed her boy's forehead, on the famous scar. “Do what you have to do, honey. We are proud of the man you became.”

Than everything slowly faded away.
When Harry came back to his senses, he heard Narcissa's whisper asking him if Draco was ok.

The rest passed with a blur. Neville's rebellion and Nagini's death, Bellatrix’s battle with Mrs. Weasley, even his own battle with Voldemort. It was like Harry was sorely functioning on autopilot.
As the Dark lord's body hit the ground, Harry's own body succumbed to the magical exhaustion.

As Harry closed his eyes he thought how much he liked the idea of finally crossing over, now that he completed his duty to the wizarding world. With this last thought, his heart ceased its beating.

When Harry open his eyes again, he was once more at King's Cross station.

“Welcome back, my darling” Harry smiled as he heard his mother's voice once again.

“Am I finally dead?” Lily chuckled at her son's impatience.

“Not yet, honey. Right now you are in a magical coma. As I've said before, it's your choice whether you move on or you go back.”

“I’m ready to move on, mum. I don't think I have the energy to keep living this life. I can't live knowing that almost all the people I cared about are dead. Although, I have to ask: Will Teddy be okay?”

Lily smiled at her son's selflessness. “Yes. He will live with his Grandmother Andromeda. They will help each other to overcome their grief.”

“Than I'm ready.” Harry smiled, happy that he could finally rest in peace.

Lily placed both of her hands on her son's cheeks and gently kissed his lightning shaped scar.

“Good luck with your new life. I wish you will be happy and loved. Remember that we will always be with you and that we are proud of you, no matter what.”

Before Harry could ask what his mother meant with her words, the scenery changed. All the whiteness was replaced by the dimmed light of  the fire.

“My lady, you have a son.”

Harry's high pitched cry reverberated in the room.

What the hell was happening?
