A total of three major nations, with a total of two continents. Firthwaite, a heavily behind city that has less developments than the rest, is almost a medieval-like town to the north of the eastern continent. Although small, it is a powerful kingdom, and frequently wins wars with neighboring kingdoms (not shown OR named). Although some of its developments mimic modern day, the lack of laptops or cars adds an eccentric feeling to it. It's almost as if items of that sort disappear once you walk in the borders. It is an oceanfront kingdom, and many of its citizens enjoy going for swims. Magic is illegal here, although the Queen doesn't hide the fact she knows it. This law, however, does not prevent nearly half the citizens from knowing forms of magic.
The Cities are the equivalent to modern-day society. Nearly any inventions we have today exist there, aside from a few notable exceptions such as airplanes or other large incredible technology. This nation is relatively self-governed, and surprisingly, it works. Much of it is controlled by certain 'churches' that have popped up all across the different areas. Despite the name, The Cities aren't all cities - although there are areas with skyscrapers and bustling traffic, there is just as many quiet foresty alcoves.
Lastly, in a desert island to the left, lies Tech West. The development of this area heavily mimics the industrial revolution of the late 1800s, as well as the overall economic boom in the 1910s to 1920s. Tech West's main business is developing magitech, or technology infused with magic. The practices of the area involve teaching kids magic during their school years, then using a non-invasive procedure to harvest it into its purest form. Although some disagree, it is for the best of society, and everyone themselves.
The rising political tension between Tech West and Firthwaite has left a bitter taste in everyone's mouth, and it appears that the magic churches have begun to make concerning moves on the general non-magical population.
My hope, with writing this story, is to describe some of the structures of these lands. The intersection between magic and religion, political agendas, criminality, and morality are all subjects I'd love to hit on, including some fun side arcs such as romance and rivalries.
