Nice Dinners and New Girlfriends

"Ash, did you buy the wine?" Nia yelled from the kitchen. Calum and Michael were the first to show up for dinner, surprisingly enough, requesting wine.

"Should be in the fridge, bottom right drawer!" Ashton called back from the dining area. Nia quickly located the bottle and set it on the counter. She was looking for a corkscrew when she heard the bell.

"I'll get it!" She said whilst heading to the front door. She expected Laur and Shay to stand before the door, so imagine her surprise when she saw Luke and an unfamiliar blonde.

"Hi." Luke said awkwardly.

Nia shook out of her trance and stepped to the side, to make space for them to come in. "Hi, sorry. Come in!" She said, motioning with her hand.

Luke and the girl quickly came inside.

"We haven't met yet." Nia said. "I'm Nia." She reached out her hand.

The girl looked up at her. "I'm Lyla." She said looking at her outreached hand but not extending her own. Nia awkwardly let her hand fall.

"The others are in the dining area if you want to join them. I'll get you guys something to drink." Nia said before quickly walking into the kitchen, not bothering to ask what they wanted.

Nia located the corkscrew and brought the wine to the dining area. Where she could already sense an awkward atmosphere.

"Nia, you are a lifesaver." Calum whispered in her ear as she poured his wine. Nia laughed softly. "Don't thank me just yet." She responded. Calum frowned in response, but didn't interrogate her further.

Nia was in the middle of pouring herself some wine when she heard the doorbell again.

"I'll go get it." She said whilst jogging to the door. She quickly opened the door.

"Luke brought a date." She whispered whilst pulling the girls inside. Shay and Laur shared a confused look.

"Luke is here?" Laur started. "With a date?" Shay asked immediately after.

"Yes." Nia said, quickly looking over her shoulder to ensure nobody could hear them. "And she is as unpleasant as Luke."

"There is no way." Laur said whilst walking towards the dining area.

"Well, you know what they say. Like attracts like." Shay mumbled right as they walked in. The three of them swiftly concealed their conversation by smiling at the rest.

"It smells so good in here." Shay said whilst trying to sit down.

Nia interrupted her. "Sorry, you're next to Calum actually." She said pointing to the free chair next to him. Shay furrowed her brows, but did as she was told.

Once everyone sat down a slightly awkward silence fell over the table. Everyone quietly nursed their drinks and shared some loaded looks.

"So, Luke. Who's the lady?" Calum asked, breaking the silence but increasing some of the tension in the room. Shay visibly tried to contain her laughter.

Luke frowned at his friend. "I'm Lyla. Luke's girlfriend." She replied, sitting up straight.

Ashton and Nia exchanged a glance, communicating their dislike without having to say a single word.
