Tsunade cleared her throat as the last five ninja filed into the room steadily and took the chairs along the side of the classroom.
"Sorry for borrowing your classroom, Iruka-sensei," she said good-naturedly. "It's the only one with a decent blackboard. Most of the others have chips and scars, and Kakashi insisted on it besides. Said he didn't want some chunin stranger seeing what I'm about to show you all."
She smiled at the class of abnormally quiet pre-genin, who perked up excitedly. Iruka suppressed a smile of his own, though really, he was incredibly curious; it was rare enough for the Hokage to visit, but to bring so many jonin in with her? Each of the genin sensei was there with their teams, Kakashi included, and several others besides.
He closed and locked the door quietly and retreated to the back of the room to supervise. Kakashi threw him a playful wink and his slight misgivings eased. He smiled gratefully at the Copy-nin, whose one eye twinkled merrily in acknowledgment.
Tsunade sighed and sat at Iruka's desk after receiving a nod from the teacher. "Well, you're probably all very curious, so I won't waste breath," she said amusedly. "We're testing a new jutsu today. Don't worry, it's perfectly safe and will not affect anyone or anything in this room besides--" she gestured-- "Kakashi."
Iruka raised a hand, misgivings washing over him again. "Is it safe for the intended target?" he asked, cursing the worry present in his tone. Tsunade chuckled.
"Yes," she assured him. "What I'm going to do is tap into the memory awarded to Kakashi specifically by the Sharingan; we think it can be used on normal memories as well, but since the ones from the Sharingan are crystal clear and unchangeable, we thought it would be better to start there. Originally, we were going to use Sasuke, but Kakashi insisted that no matter how harmless the jutsu, there was no way he was letting us alpha test on a genin, which is fair."
She waved Kakashi over and he stepped up beside her, hands in his pockets, slouched over. "We thought we should show the pre-genin this one, to spice up their afternoon and because your blackboard makes for a marvelous surface on which to project the memories."
Another jonin raised his hand; Asuma. "Godaime-sama," he called seriously, "Hatake Kakashi is an orphan due to suicide, who lost his team violently and his teacher even more so, who was in ANBU black-ops as a child , who takes more dangerous missions even now than anyone else in the village has ever come back from, and regularly. Are you sure we should be exposing the children to such violence and brutality as he has experienced?"
Tsunade smiled warmly at him, but Iruka saw the edge in her mouth. "We're only giving him nice prompts, and we're going slowly. Nothing violent should show up, and if one of the prompts ends up with a bloody memory he's going to signal me."
"I can still control my own thought process to some degree, supposedly," Kakashi piped up beside her. "Not enough to stop the memory, but enough to delay or blur it so she can stop the jutsu or change the prompt."
"You have eyedrops, right?" Iruka asked before he could stop himself. Kakashi always got dry eye when the Sharingan was active too long. The jonin chuckled and plucked a small bottle from his vest.
"I know what I'm doing, sensei," he said. "No need to worry. I have food pills for chakra replenishment, too, so I shouldn't even pass out by the end of the process."
