I felt an intense pain strike my head as I slowly opened eyes. My vision was blurry, my words were slurry. I was surrounded by monster high green trees and an endless clear, blue sky.           “Wheeeere a-a-m i?” I asked, my voice cracking as a shiver ran up my spine. I turned my head slowly to the side and saw a young lady with striking features, ruined by endless bruises all over her body. I gently lifted my torso, slowly noticing the pieces of metal engulfing me and my surroundings.

I saw children crying, frantic mothers searching, worried fathers looking through their pockets, but most importantly, my mother lying on the floor with her eyes wide open, unable to move. I screamed out for her, though off course, my voice could have never been heard over the children’s cries.

I saw a man, a doctor, I wasn’t able to tell who, pick my mother up on a stretcher and walk away. I screamed and screamed though my voice was as loud as a mouse’s. Eventually, I drifted back to the land of the dead.

After eternity, I opened my eyes to see myself in a four-walled, plain white room. I felt the tears stream down my face. I was lost. Mentally and physically, and there was no one around to help me. How did I get here? Where was i? Most importantly though, where was my mother? The endless thoughts ran through my head, of the worst possible scenarios that could’ve happened.

A glass door slid open and a well-dressed man came in, walking slowly with a small smile on his face. “Hello Andrew, I’m Doctor Bukari, how are you feeling buddy?” He asked, nodding towards my body and the endless tubes attached.

“Oh, no, I wouldn’t do that If I was you!” he exclaimed quickly running to my aid, preventing me from lifting my body into a sitting position.

I cleared me throat, smiled sweetly, and then remembered.

“WHERE THE HELL IS MY MOTHER?” I screamed and kicked and shouted and cried. Men dressed in uniforms came in to restrain me, the doctor looked at me sympathetically.

“I’m sorry to inform you Andrew...” Oh no, I hate that sentence, what happened to my mum? She’s dead. No, no don’t be so negative, maybe she broke an arm or maybe it’s on them “I’m sorry to inform you but you won’t be able to ever see your mother again” ones. I shook my head and cried till my eyes dried out.

“I’m sorry to inform you Andrew, but you were in an aeroplane, on the way to Hong Kong when your flight’s right wing caught on fire and eventually crashed onto the land of Sri Lanka. Your mother is fine, she’s currently in intensive care.” He continued with a small, sympathetic smile.

“How many?” I asked without looking up to him.

“16“ He replied with a small voice, understanding my question.

“Here’s your meds son, make sure you don’t chew on them or else they won’t be as affective. Here, take them with water” he instructed me, giving me two blue tablets and a cup of water.

I swallowed them and miraculously managed to mumble a small ‘Goodnight’.
