I smelt caramelized onions when I arrived home. The kitchen ventilation was on, and the sound of boiling water and warm mist was the only sign of liveliness in the house. Charlie was at the stove cooking up a storm. He turned around and waved, indicating that I should sit down at the already made table.

"Should I be worried?" I asked my dad. He shook his head and reminded me about my hand.

"No, I can cook a little bit too. Sit - just because I don't have Jeon to help me, doesn't mean this isn't a disaster. It's a Grandma Swan recipe."

I eyed him skeptically the entire time. From the plating of the food, the way he dropped the garnish on the couscous, up until the dish was placed in front of me.

"One hand-friendly. Bon appetite."

The radio was turned on the entire time we were eating. As Charlie promised, the food was more than decent. It was actually tasteful. I had thought he'd grill a steak and call it a meal without vegetables, but he had actually made something viable.

"- Seattle police department are still concerned about the rising case of murders and missing people in the area. Some are even speaking of a serial killer -"

Charlie turned down the radio and shook his head.

"You stay away from Seattle, you hear me?"

I nodded, but I knew that what was in Seattle was going to come to me.

"Is Jungkook coming around?" Charlie asked as he stabbed his food. I shook my head, not having the heart to tell him. I looked out the window, the tears in my eyes stinging as a lump formed in my throat.

"He's a bit busy."

"That's a shame. I hoped he could keep me company during the game. You're not that responsive - no offense!" Charlie held his hands up in defense.

Charlie tapped the pile of letters that were set up on the window still, all of them with different emblems from different universities. I hadn't opened any of them.

"So, do you want to tell me something?"

I pressed my lips together and laid my fork down gently.

"I actually don't know if I want to go to university just yet," I started slowly. "I've been talking to Dr. Min a lot and ... I realized how I've always done what I was told to do. I had to take care of mom, pay the bills, and do the chores and stuff. Then Namjoon mentioned an idea that I'm still playing around with."

Charlie didn't show any reaction, which was better than nothing.

"And that is?"

"That I just take a break. Get out of Forks to discover the world, or maybe work somewhere full time for a year before going into the nit and grit of studying."

"And ...that's why you're not opening your letters?" Charlie hesitate. "You know, it doesn't hurt look and ask if you can get a deferral for a year. Applications cost a lot of money."

"I know,"  I sighed. "I know."

"You know, Bella. You need to do the thing that is best for you. You don't need to stay in Forks just so I won't be alone or try to make us happy. I'm fine as long as you're not taking drugs or anything," Charlie chuckled towards the end. "You know, Sue Clearwater said that you not being troublesome is probably an indication that something is going on. Is that it?"

A stone fell from my heart and I felt a lot lighter.

"Yes, this is it."

"Well, good. You're choice. The house door is open," he humphed. "Besides, I won't be alone."
