Chapter 19: Struck

It took a few months but finally after winter passed they found a trail to follow to find Freeze. It was about the end of June when they finally tracked him down. Oswald brought Daniel with so he could learn a bit more about his girlfriend. They stepped inside a large building and the temperature suddenly dropped 80 degrees, Oswald felt fine as he wore a large, Daniel had walked barely knowing what to expect so he quite underdressed even though he wore a full suit and a black overcoat, he was still freezing. "Penguin aren't you a sight for sore eyes." Stated Victor Fries across the room though he was barely seen through the cold vapor in the air.
"Victor, old friend I-"
"If you're about to ask for a favor, no! I'm too busy to deal with any of the Supervillain Crap you have going on." Stated Victor as Oswald paused.
"Depends on what you define as a favor." Stated Oswald as he walked closer.
"What do you want?" Asked Fries as Oswald snapped his fingers and Daniel stepped up with his phone and pulled up a picture of him and Sarah.
"Do you know the girl?" Asked Oswald as Fries looked at the photo.
"Yeah but she didn't look like that when I met her." Stated Fries as Oswald and Daniel looked at each other.
"What do you mean, what did she look like?" Asked Daniel as Fries continued to work with whatever he doing but began to go into a grave detail of the Sarah he knew.
"She looked like her father which I didn't even question that man's genetics are probably all over the place." Said Fries as Oswald heard that and started remembering something.

A little over two years ago Oswald had been legally cornered and arrested, he had left Daniel in charge of his criminal empire while he was admitted to Arkham Asylum due to a lot of lying during a psych test. He had payed off the Warden to allow him to be in the same cell block as Edward, though he was aiming towards being his cellmate but no matter how much he raised the payment the Warden wouldn't take it so he decided to just leave it at being in the cell next to Ed's. After about a month of being kept in the same cellblock as not only Edward, but also Harvey Dent and the Joker Oswald's nerves were starting to be pushed past limit, plus this was before Joker knew of his relationship with Edward so the two had to pretend like they hated each other which was only upsetting him further. Eventually something interesting happened, a guard brought down a little girl who had the exact appearance of the Joker. "Looks like you have a fan Joker." Said Edward as a bit of a jest.
"A bit extreme one at that." Stated Oswald as he had commented on the fact that her entire body was painted white or at least that what they assumed until the guard had shoved her to the ground and started beating her mercilessly. The room had gone silent no one sure what to say or do except Joker he appeared to be trying to break out of cell and surprisingly it worked along with opening the doors to all the cells. Oswald was absolutely disgusted by this display because honestly it reminded him of his own childhood the way he would be bullied so he took pity upon the girl and decided that he'd try and help her in hopes of he had found her later in life he could cash in a favor or two. Apparently Harvey and Edward had a similar thought in mind as the two actually worked together and drug the guard away from the girl. Oswald picked up the guard's nightstick and grinned. "Beating a defenseless child, really? Are you guys just that bored or is there something worse wrong with you than us, because we would never do something like this." Said Oswald as he swung the nightstick beating the man across the face. Oswald had looked back seeing Joker scooping up the little girl in his arms and carrying her away.
"Never would've expected that." Said Edward as Oswald shrugged.

"Oswald! Oswald!" Called Daniel as Oswald blinked.
"Sorry." Stated Oswald. "So you know her?" Asked Oswald as he regained a stern tone.
"Yeah but I'm all out of the stuff I used to fix her so you're out of luck." Stated Fries as Oswald huffed then the two left.

They arrived back at Oswald's home and found the stained glass window on the front door was smashed to bits, someone had broken in. Daniel drew his gun and opened the door stepping in front of Oswald. They walked in and saw a dark shadowy figure in parlor, Daniel ran forward and hit the man on the back of the head with the butt of his gun. Oswald flipped on the light and saw Edward laying on the floor holding the back of his head. "Ed I gave you a key!" Said Oswald as he shook his head.
"And the guards confiscated it!" Said Edward as Daniel had knocked off his glasses and he was blindly searching for them. Oswald picked them up from the floor and walked over to Edward.
"Looking for these?" Asked Oswald softly as he placed the glasses on Edward's face.
"Did you really have to hit me that hard, Daniel?" Asked Edward as he stood looking at his son but Daniel didn't even say anything he just walked away. "What's with him?" Asked Edward as Oswald sighed.
"A lot of things." Muttered Oswald as he sighed but suddenly felt Edward's hand creeping across his back.
"God I've missed you." Said Edward as Oswald looked at him and smiled.
"Well we are alone." Stated Oswald as he gave Edward quite the suggestive look. Edward grinned as he walked over to Oswald and kissed him softly. Their soft kisses became a little rougher as the two walked over to the large table in the room that was often used for meetings. Edward while still kissing him lifted Oswald by his thighs up onto the table. Edward kissed Oswald's neck and slowly started to undo Oswald's belt. Suddenly as they continued their erotic behavior they heard a loud thud from behind them. Edward stopped and looked at Oswald.
"Did you hear something?" Asked Edward as Oswald was looking at something.
"Ed, turn around." Stated Oswald as Edward turned his head and saw Daniel laying on the floor.
"Do you think he?" Asked Edward as Oswald sighed.
"Yes, I think he did." Said Oswald as he sighed. The two of them ceased their actions and picked up Daniel putting him on the couch. "I don't know why he had such a bad reaction, he barely saw anything." Said Oswald.
"Barely saw anything? Oswald I had my hand down your-"
"Shut up! He's waking up." Said Oswald as Daniel's eyes opened. He looked over at them and flinched back.
"Why were you two touching each other like that?" Asked Daniel as Oswald and Edward looked at each other not sure how to tell him the truth.
"Oswald and I are um... Seeing each other." Stated Edward as Daniel glared at him.
"No shit! I gathered that much!" Barked Daniel as suddenly he started to become pale and terrified. "Is this why you always wanted me to be nicer to him?! Because you've been banging my Dad!?" Demanded Daniel as Oswald and Edward paused not sure how to even address that statement. Daniel started to freak out even further. "God I can't breathe!" Said Daniel as he clutched his chest. "How long has this been going on?!" Demanded Daniel as he stood before them though the two were unsure if they wanted to completely confess to their son. Edward held Oswald's hand reassuring him that no matter what decision he made he would support him in it. Oswald sighed and decided he was done hiding this from Daniel so he started to spill the truth.
"Daniel this has been going long since before you were even a thought." Stated Oswald firmly as Daniel sat down.
"How in God's name was I even born?!" Demanded Daniel as Oswald smiled out of nervousness.
"About that." Muttered Oswald as he looked over at Edward.
"I guess it wouldn't be right to keep it from him any longer." Said Edward as then the two went into detail about their relationship and how eventually it lead to Daniel's birth.
"So what I'm hearing is that I am genetically related to both of you but you've been keeping this from me since the day I was born?!" Demanded Daniel as Edward nodded.
"Yes." Stated Edward as Daniel rubbed his eyes.
"This is absolutely insane." He muttered as he hung his head. "Why didn't you guys tell me any of this?!" Asked Daniel as Oswald and Edward paused looking at each other.
"Because we knew you'd react badly." Said Oswald like he was trying hide the truth.
"Oswald!" Barked Edward calling him out on it.
"Fine! We were..." Oswald stopped he couldn't even say it.
"We were scared Daniel." Stated Edward as he sighed hanging his head.
"Of what?" Asked Daniel as he looked at him differently now. Usually there was always a hint of hatred when he looked at his father but now him and Edward were eye to eye and he couldn't see anything that could even be remotely mistaken for hatred though he gave them was more of a sign that he was just completely lost.
"Of you. Of making you feel like a freak. Oswald and I both grew up feeling like that and we just wanted to spare you the torment." Stated Edward as Oswald held his hand knowing this was really hard for him to admit. "I've done everything I can to try and protect but I still ended up with you hating me as much as I hated my own father." Growled Edward as he just stared at the floor again. Daniel stared at Edward for a moment actually feeling guilty for how he had treated him over the years but he assumed there was nothing he could do about it now.
"I'm gonna go bed and hope this was a horrible, horrible dream." Stated Daniel stood and walked off.
"Why can't he be nice to you even once?" Asked Oswald in an angered tone as he shook his head.
"It's fine, honestly I understand completely why he hates me. It's completely my fault. If I had just left it alone and said nothing after Sofia kidnapped him maybe he'd be a lot happier and not be your lackey for one." Said Edward as he stood and walked across the room.
"He's not my lackey Ed." Said Oswald as Edward scoffed.
"Are you kidding he does anything you say!" Said Edward as Oswald sighed.
"That would've been true months ago but ever since he got that girlfriend of his, he's wrapped around her finger and he's even asked me to stop bringing him along for criminal activity which isn't like him at all but apparently she asked him to stop putting himself in the line of fire." Stated Oswald as Edward turned and stared at him.
"Really?! I've only been asking him to stop doing since he was four! Idiot would walk out into the middle of traffic on purpose! He always said he was testing his limits! Kid's gonna get himself killed someday." Scoffed Edward as he poured himself a glass of scotch.
"Not anymore with this girl. The bitch is surprising I'll give her that!" Stated Oswald as Edward turned.
"What do you mean?" Asked Edward as Oswald looked at him like he should've already known what he meant.
"She's completely different than Joker but Daniel told me she basically worships him." Stated Oswald as Edward narrowed his eyes.
"You seem pretty sure of that statement." Stated Edward as he sat back with Oswald.
"Well I actually got to meet her. She was very respectful towards me which is certainly odd especially because everyone knows Joker hates me. She almost acted afraid of me which was even crazier because I'm certain that if I had threatened her any way she could've sent that psychopath after me." Said Oswald as he thought about it.
"Well that is certainly odd." Stated Edward as Oswald sighed.
"There's something I have to tell you." Stated Oswald as he knew that Ed was the most intelligent person he knew and would do anything to protect Oswald so of course Ed could find a way out of this deal with Butch and the only reason Oswald wanted a way is because the last thing he wanted to do is confront Joker about his daughter because he was certain that was a death sentence.
"So what you're telling me is that our son is risking basically everything he cares about to save you from Butch who by the way you've murdered and let's not forget the time you severed his hand! Why are you afraid of him again?" Asked Edward as Oswald sighed.
"Because I'm too old to murder a man whose come back from the dead twice." Stated Oswald as Edward sighed rubbing his temple.
"Well have you even considered talking with the girl?" Asked Edward.
"Of course not! That's a death sentence and I don't need Joker after me too!" Said Oswald as Edward held his head.
"What if she's more reasonable than her father?!" Demanded Edward as Oswald scoffed.
"Do you really think Joker would let us get near her, after all didn't he break out of Arkham tonight?" Asked Oswald as Edward sighed.
"Well honestly I'd rather face Joker than ever face Butch ever again so what would you prefer?" Asked Edward as Oswald sighed and decided. So Edward changed out of his Arkham uniform and went with Oswald and a group of his men to meet Joker and his daughter Sarah to discuss things that they needed from them. Sarah explained that the stuff Fries used on her only worked because of a specific enzyme in her blood so it wouldn't work for anyone else but she did know of a different way she could help them in exchange for Daniel being kept out of the line of fire. Oswald though not wanting to agreed.
