When I told Kyle that Zak had asked us to meet him for lunch, he was overly excited, jumping up and down in our kitchen and running around like some maniac.
"It's just lunch, Kyle." I said, attempting to calm him down.
"Yeah, alone with the most famous ghost hunters there are. How can you NOT be excited right now?" He asked me, grabbing my shoulders.
"I don't know. They're just people. I mean I'm nervous, but not because they are famous."
"Who knows, maybe you'll catch the eye of one of them."
I rolled my eyes and went to grab my car keys, considering it was almost 1130 we should probably head to the diner. Truth was, I was extremely nervous. No, I didn't believe in ghosts because I have never had a reason to, but I have always had a huge crush on Zak. He was the only reason I ever watched that stupid show. My heart was racing at the fact I was actually meeting him in person, my stomach in knots, but I wasn't going to let Kyle in that I was feeling that way he would have a field day. I just kept quiet, not saying a word the entire drive to the diner. As I pulled into the parking lot, I saw their big white van, and immediately began glancing in the windows to see if I could see them. Within a minute or two, I spotted the muscular, tattooed man I had a crush on, making my heart once again begin to race. Kyle nudged me in the arm, trying to calm me down. Apparently the look on my face said it all. I slowly made my way to the front door of the diner, Kyle at my side. As I opened the door and turned to my left, I met the eyes of Zak himself. As our eyes met, a smile spread across his face and he waved us over. He ushered me to sit in the chair next to him, while Kyle sat at the empty chair at the head of the table.
"You must be Sarah and Kyle." Aaron said to us, reaching his hand out for us to shake.
"The one and only." I said with a laugh as I took his hand and shook it.
"So, you're a skeptic huh?" Zak asked me.
"Yep. I personally don't believe in all of the paranormal stuff, I've never truly been given a reason to. I'm open to it, but until I personally experience it I won't believe it." I answered, taking a sip of my coffee.
"Maybe tonight we will change that."
"Doubtful, she is the most stubborn and strong willed person I have ever known." Kyle spoke up and said with a laugh.
"We have been known to make a believer out of the most hardened skeptic." Nick answered him quickly.
"Without faking it?" I retorted, not realizing what I was saying as it spewed out of my mouth.
"Yes, without faking it. None of what we do is fake, Sarah." Zak said, quickly making my shut my mouth.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that."
Zak just nudged my arm in reassurance while I got a death glare from Kyle. Heaven forbid that I screw this up for him, it's his dream come true. I rolled my eyes at him and stuck out my tongue while the other guys weren't paying attention. For a 30 year old I sure did act like a child sometimes.
"After lunch we are going to go ahead and head over to the hospital if you wanted to join us." Zak said, breaking my death glare back at Kyle away.
"I would love to." I replied sweetly, shooting him a Colgate smile.
Zak smiled in return, paid for all of our food, and walked us to the door. As I walked to my Jeep, Zak and the other guys got into their van and headed towards our destination. Inside I was smiling to myself at the thought of him maybe showing a little interest in me, but quickly that faded when I realized he was famous and could have any girl on this planet that he wanted.
"Seems like someone was a little interested." Kyle said, breaking me away from my thoughts.
"Huh? No, no way. He could have any girl he wanted, he wouldn't choose me. Why would he?" I responded, shaking my head and being realistic.
"Look in the mirror, honey. You have bomb ass looks that go along with that bomb ass personality you got going."
"Whatever, Kyle. You're obligated to say that, you're my best friend."
"I ain't obligated for shit."
I laughed at Kyle as we pulled into our destination, the guys had beat us there. As we got out of the car, I shot my head towards Kyle because I heard someone talking to me.
"Sorry, I didn't hear you. What did you say?" I asked him as I walked over to him.
"I didn't say anything, Sarah." He responded, raising an eyebrow.
I just shook my head and walked with him over to the three guys. As we got to them, I heard it again but a little louder this time and I could make out what was being said.
Help me.
"Which one of you keeps talking to me?" I asked, seriousness spread across my face.
"No one was talking, Sarah. Dude, you okay?" Kyle asked me, putting a hand on my shoulder.
They killed me.
"There it is again! Seriously you guys need to stop messing with me. It's not funny." I said, ready to cry at the fact they were bullying me for being a nonbeliever.
"Sarah, I swear to god none of us are talking or messing with you. We aren't that cruel." Zak said, walking closer to me.
I walked away from them, taking myself closer to the hospital to see if I continued to hear it. They were a good 15 feet away so if I heard it this time I knew it couldn't be them.
You're all going to die.
Well, I guess that's one way I could be made into a believer.
