(Y/N)'s POV

The Fields of Asphodel were more depressing than I thought. To be honest, I had no idea what I was expecting, but it was just sad.

There were people everywhere in a cavern that had trampled, black grass. Stalactites lined the cavern ceiling and some were even impaled on the grass after having fallen from it.

The four of us tried to blend in with the crowd. Sometimes some random person would walk up to us and start talking, but they sounded like garbled chatter that I couldn't understand. When they realized that we couldn't understand them, they'd frown and go away. It was very sad.

We kept following the line of new arrivals that went from the main gates to a black-tented pavilion with a banner that read: JUDGMENTS FOR ELYSIUM AND ETERNAL DAMNATION.

Out the back of the tent came two smaller lines.

To the left, I saw people flanked by security ghosts as they were marched down into the Fields of Punishment, which did not look appealing. Smoke seemed to be everywhere and rivers of lava flowed around a cracked wasteland where people were being attacked by hellhounds, burned at the stake, shot at by a bunch of laughing security ghosts, getting crushed by a huge Sumo wrestler cyclops, and a bunch of other awful things.

To the right, there was a small valley surrounded by a gated community. Beyond the security gate were beautiful houses from every time period in history, flowers blooming everywhere, nicely kept grass, perfect streets with no litter or garbage anywhere in sight, and other amazing things. I could hear laughter and smell barbeque cooking. This was way better and seemed like the only good place in the Underworld.

"That's what it's all about," Annabeth said. "That's the place for heroes."

Percy frowned. "There's not as many people in there compared to the Fields of Asphodel or even the Fields of Punishment."

I patted him on the back. "You'd better do some very good stuff in your life, then, Perce."

We left the judgment pavilion and moved deeper into the Fields of Asphodel. It got very darker and colors seemed to be fading.

After a few miles of walking, we heard a familiar screech. Looming on in the distance was a glittering black obsidian palace. Above the parapets swirled the three Furies. Fun.

"I suppose it's too late to turn back," Grover said wistfully.

"We'll be okay." Percy tried to sound confident.

"Maybe we should search some of the other places first," Grover suggested. "Like Elysium, for instance..."

"Come on, goat boy." Annabeth grabbed his arm.

Grover yelped. His sneakers sprouted wings and his legs shot forward, pulling him away from Annabeth. He landed flat on his back in the grass.

"Grover," Annabeth chided. "Stop messing around."

"But I didn't--"

He yelped again. His shoes were flapping like crazy now. They levitated off the ground and started dragging him away from us.

"Maia!" he yelled, but the magic word seemed to have no effect. "Maia, already! 911! Help!"

I cursed and ran towards Grover, trying to grab his hand, but his stupid shoes picked up speed, skidding him downhill like a bobsled.
