You know, I'm getting a little tired of this game. Why don't you just show me your face?

————-

A yellow eye watched the two, the primarily The Golden Guard.

The pair splashed water on each other, eventually tiring and laying on the riverbed.

"That was the most fun I've had in.. forever!" The Golden Guard exclaimed with a genuine smile on his face. "Can we.. do this tomorrow?"

"Of course!" (Y/n) giggled. "Let's get back now though. It's getting dark."

They got up, Pip following behind them, and returned to the castle, now masked.

The corridors were silent. The only thing lighting them were the torches scattered throughout the hallway walls.

"Hey, you should hide him." The Golden Guard said, referring to Pip.

"Why?"

"He'll be.. taken away." He muttered, quietly. His words were sympathetic and cautionary.

"Belos is gonna take him away like a toy in kindergarten?" (Y/n) joked, staring at her partner with a 'really' expression.

The Golden Guard turned around and grabbed her shoulders tightly, "Just listen to me, okay? You care about him. I don't want you to lose him, okay?"

(Y/n) was taken aback by his sudden warning cautious tone.
"O-okay,"

She picked Pip up and he turned to wood, allowing her to stow him away in her cloak.

"Golden Guard." A shrill voice said from behind them. Shocking the two of them.

"Kikimora." The Golden Guard replied as the pair turned around to face her.

A tiny biped demon stood before them. She had one yellow eye and a pair of conjoined hands for hair.

"Emperor Belos wishes to see you."

The Golden Guard nodded and Kikimora began walking away.

"Hey, Kiki." He said, drawing her attention back to him.

She turned around, glaring at The Golden Guard. "What."

"I forgot to ask. Have you met my new partner? The Silver Scout?" He asked in a cocky tone.

"Oh great. There's two of them now." She groaned.

"Silver Scout, this is Kikimora. The Emperor's butler."

"I AM NOT HIS BUTLER!" She screamed, her naturally red skin becoming more red with anger.

"Oh, my apologies. His maid."

The Golden Guard smirked and began walking away.
(Y/n) followed and waved goodbye to Kikimora.

"Welp, it was.. nice meeting you!"

Kiki couldn't get another word in.

The pair walked away, now walking to the throne room. They walked side by side, silently.

"Hey.. Goldie?" (Y/n) asked, quietly as they trotted down the empty halls.

"Huh?" He turned his head to look at her. Their foot steps echoed off the walls.

"I'm sorry if I made you feel pressured to take off your mask. It wasn't considerate of me, I-"

"Hey." He interrupted her, "It's okay. I wanted to."

"But I thought you said Belos would punish us if we took off our masks."

The Golden Guard lifted his mask from his face. His beautiful magenta eyes looked at her with kindness.

"It'll be our little secret, then." He winked.

(Y/n) took her mask off as well and smiled at him, bringing the tender moment to a close.

The pair reattached their masks and approached the grand doors to the throne room.

"Wait, did he want to see you too? Or just me?"

(Y/n) shrugged and opened the tall doors.

"Oh, good. Both of you are here."

The pair kneeled before Belos.

"You wanted to see us?" The Golden Guard asked. His mask was shimmering in the burning light from the fire behind the throne.

"Yes. A little birdie told me you took off your mask, Golden Guard."

A cold sweat ran down both their spines.

"I didn't. You must be mistaken." The Golden Guard lied, levelheadedly.

"Hm. You see Hunter, I have eyes all around the castle. Specifically, one named Kikimora. And... she told me she saw you playing in a river with a girl. I presume that girl was The Silver Scout?"

"Yes. It was me, Emperor Belos. And please, don't be upset with him. I forced him to take his mask off." (Y/n) said, taking the blame.

The Golden Guard looked at her as if she were crazy.
Do you have any idea what he'll do to you?!

"Is that so?"

"Yes."

Emperor Belos let out a sigh. "This saddens me, (Y/n)." He said, "Do you know what happens when you break the rules?"
