The night was unpleasantly cold, snow had fallen all day leaving nothing but complete silence that I would usually find comforting. Yet for some reason I felt anxious and uneasy, like I knew something would go wrong.
"Do you know how much money we could make?!"
I had been sitting at the bottom of the staircase listening to my parents argue, nothing new. I was used to their constant arguing, ignoring whatever negative thing was said about me. Yet who knew that these next words would affect me the way it did.
"He's going to come get her either way! There's no going back on this deal!"
My mind exploded with questions, an uneasy feeling building within me.
My breath caught in my throat when I heard the sound of a knock on the door. The house went quiet and the usual sounds of arguing and yelling were quickly replaced with an eerie silence. After what seemed like forever a second knock was heard followed by loud fast footsteps coming from the kitchen.
My dad came into view completely ignoring my presence, hesitating before opening the door.
"I assume she's ready for me." The stranger spoke, I looked up taking in his appearance. White hair and yellow eyes that immediately made contact with mine.
I froze as my dad turned towards me "y-yes she's right here." He answered, avoiding my face.
Panic struck me as I abruptly stood up running towards the kitchen.
"MOM! What's going on?! Who-"
"Go with your father." She said, not even a glance in my direction.
"N-NO I DON'T WANT TO!" Tears brimmed my eyes and my panic spiked upon hearing footsteps behind me.
I jumped at the feeling of a hand touching my shoulder, turning around almost instantly. My heart dropped and a chill ran down my spine at the sight of my father looking at me for the first time in months.
"We don't want you." My eyes widened and I felt a pain in my chest that I've desperately been trying to avoid.
"We hate you" my mom spoke, placing her hand on my shoulder and looking at me.
"You're a waste."
"A burden"
"Useless"
I felt my fingers twitch and my breath stutter, as my heart pounded against my chest.
"We love you."
I felt something snap in me and I was quickly encased in a layer of cold ice. The only sound I could make out was the pounding of my heart against my chest and my ragged breath.
It's too cold. I don't know how to get out.
