Smaug flew towards the Lonely Mountain, bent on having a new home away from those bloodthirsty orcs to raise his only hatchling. He held his egg carefully in his claws, sighing in sadness from the loss of his beloved mate. He had seen her slaughtered by the ruthless Pale Orc who had lived for so many years.
But on the way he had crossed into Eagle Territory, who didn't take kindly to intruders, especially dragons for that matter. Six Eagles charged at him. Smaug hissed viciously, unable to use his talons for defense because of his hatchling so he resorted with fire; burning most of them.
One had managed to come around, seeing the egg. It shrieked in anger, not wanting anymore Fire Drakes born like Smaug. He soared, ramming into the Drake's legs.
Smaug roared, feeling something dropping from his talons; his egg.
"NO!" Smaug screeched, diving, but more Eagles blocked his way.
"I take care not to search for your hatchling, we do not wish for any more of your kind to rise in this peaceful world of Middle Earth," the Leader Eagle said in a heartless tone, glaring at Smaug. The Drake narrowed his eyes.
"I will have my revenge for losing my heir! For I am Fire! I am Death!" Bellowed Smaug, grief for his only drakeling rising inside his soul. He soared out of Eagle Territory, not bothering to shoot them down, going on his way to Erebor to desolate the town and the Dwarf Kingdom to inflict his rage and grief.

Meanwhile in another universe, Puck had been meditating at Castle Wyvern whom he was visiting for a while, strengthening his magic when he sensed something from another world; something too young to perish falling.
A frown of exasperation appeared. An egg falling? Seriously? But Puck knew he couldn't let this young unborn hatchling die.
He muttered a spell under his breath, eyes glowing.
"Little one, your time to die Puck does not wish to see. But to safety and family you shall soon be. I now have you appear with me!" The Trickster said, raising his hands.
The red speckled egg falling nearly hits the ground before eventually disappearing into a flash of light.
Puck grunted from catching the heavy dragon egg, but steadied himself.
"Phew," he mumbled, setting the egg down carefully. But what to do with this thing now? It needed a mother's care or it would die. Puck petted it.
"Uncle Puck will find you someone, not to worry. I know of some creatures similar to your species who could take you," he said with a knowing grin, since Gargoyle eggs and Dragon eggs looked rather similar to one another.
Puck used his magic to make the egg light so he could carry it, and see if one of the females could be merciful enough to take in the little one.
A gargoyle couple prayed as hard as they could to have an egg but had no success. They were both sitting in the hatchery watching the eggs with longing until Puck spotted the gargoyle couple.
"Pardon me..." he said to announce himself. The blue male looked up sharply. He eyed Puck with suspicion. "And what are you doing here, Puck? I thought the Magus forbid you to enter the Rookery. Plus, what is that egg you got there?"
"Egg?" The brown/purple beaked female looked around; eyes wide at the sight. It had a reddish color with orange stripes, different from the others. But it definitely was a gargoyle egg. Puck nodded. "I believe this can probably belong to you?" He questioned. The female shook her head, sadness in her. "No, me and my mate tried, but nothing. That isn't our hatchling."
"But this little one has nowhere to go, and it will die if not properly incubated. You have to take it. It's very life depends on your care." Puck persuaded them, handing it out to them.
The male gargoyle was hesitant about adopting an orphan egg, but the female suddenly felt her mother instincts arriving. The egg looked lonely. Sighing softly, she rubbed her hand along the smooth egg shell. She couldn't turn away this hatchling.
"We'll take him," the female stated. Puck grinned, happy to finally have the egg off of his hands but knew that sooner or later he would have to tell this little one male or female its true heritage.
The male now felt like a father when putting the egg in with the other gargoyles, smiling. "Welcome to the clan, little hatchling," the female whispered softly, gently petting their adopted baby, hoping to give him/her a good life.
....
Any good?
