In the summer, they tell you it's hot. But they don't tell you how hot. They just say that you'll be fine. But for me, I am not. Walking through The Grand Bahamas Airport and I'm already feeling the humidity. But the view they say, is so worth it.
I step through the double doors of the airport, with my suitcase in one hand, my backpack on my shoulders and immediately see my aunt's grey convertible, named Meredith.
"Auntie Julia!" I say, smiling.
"Oh honey! Look at you! You're so grown up and gorgeous!" she remarks, returning the smile and pulling me into a big hug when I reach her.
"Thank you." I reply, unsure of what else to say as my attention has been drawn so quickly to the tall, handsome figure on the other side of the car, somehow gone unnoticed before. I guess she notices me staring because suddenly I feel a hand on my back as I'm being guided over to him.
"This is my neighbor's son, Dean. Dean, this is my niece, Tate." she says, introducing us.
Now standing in front of him, I'm starting to see his features more in detail. His eyes are a nice deep chocolate brown, his nose being poreless and perfectly shaped, his lips being smooth looking as well as his perfect, stubbly jawline. But his hair is absolutely gorgeous, soft looking, and luscious. Like you could comb your fingers through it and never get tired.
"Tate, honey! Are you alright?" My aunt says, snapping me out of my daydream. I look back up at him to make sure it's still all there, and of course it is.
"I'm fine, I'm fine. But can we go now?" I respond, walking around to the passenger side and getting in.
The whole ride there, I can feel him staring at me through the rearview mirror. But I guess it's his turn to stare at me now. I keep stealing glances at him and every time I do, he gives me a small smile. I can already tell this boy is going to drive me crazy.
Finally, we're at the house, pulling up in the driveway and I grin. Oh, how I've missed this place. Every summer I used to come here as kid with my mom and we would always stay with my aunt. But this year, my mom is no longer here, so I decided that it's time to move here. Be in a place where she loved.
"Help Tate with her things, will you Dean?" My aunt asks as I step out of the car.
I watch as he gives her a quick nod and takes my suitcase and backpack out of the trunk and starts carrying them inside.
I follow them inside, with that huge smile still plastered on my face as I walk upstairs with my things and enter my room. It's still the same as it's always been. I love it.
"Are you hungry, Tate?" I hear my aunt yell from downstairs.
"Not right now!" I yell back as I walk around my room, looking at everything, sinking it all in.
A couple moment later there's a knock on my door.
"No, Aunt Julia, I'm not hungry!" I say, getting irritated. I love my aunt, but sometimes she can be over the top. You'll see what I mean later on.
"Not Aunt Julia."
I turn around to see Dean leaning against the door frame and I turn bright red.
"No need to be embarrassed, Princess. Happens all the time." He says chuckling. "Anyways, I'm heading out to meet up with some friends, you wanna come? It would be good for you to start meeting people here."
I nod. "Sure, just give me a couple minutes to change and freshen up."
"5 minutes max" he confirms, closing the door and leaving me in silence.
