first day of summer

Today is the day that the Conklins are coming to Cousins.

The Conklins are like family, they come to Cousins all the summers, every single year, since Kiena can remember, and honestly, they always have the best days. Through out the year, Kiena always used to miss Belly, and their sleepovers were they only talk shit about people, or talk about crushes and stupid stuff, she also missed playing thoses stupid video games with Steven, even tho she hated to admit it.

She used to loved everything about that, until she didn't anymore.

FIRST DAY OF SUMMER, must people are probably out with friends with the idea of having the "summer of our lives" and that's what Kiena would like to be doing. Instead she's layind in bed with the worse hangover she has ever had.

Kiena's been staring at the ceiling for a long time trying to ignore the big headache she's feeling right now, thinking how shit this summer is going to be. The debutant ball, which honestly she's only doingit for mom, having to see Steven again, and having to face belly knowing that she'd probably hate her if he knew what happened last summer. Thinking about how much she had to drink last night and how she's going to fix the dark circles under her eyes so her brothers wouldn't notice. Her head is a mess, but all of a sudden, she comes out of her thoughts when her phone rings.

-Nora what the hell?- she says as she sees her friend number pop up in the screen.

- Heyy kie, how are you feeling this morning?

-Like shit.

-Yeah same, reminder to not drink and smoke that much at a party again, just wanted to remind you of the bonfire tonight. I mean you're still going right?

-Shit, i totaly forgot but sure, are you-

she's inturupted when someone nocks on the door.

- Time to wake up sunshine, Belly and steven are here already, come on!- says jeremiah

- Fuck, they're here already?-back to the phone- Sorry Nora gotta go, see you later.

Finally she had the courage to get up and start dressing. She goes to the chair and picks whatever's there and immediately goes to the bathroom in an attempt to put some foundation on her face, so no one realizes how bad she is. Her brothers would go nuts if they found out, which is hypocrite of them, since they're always drinking or smoking at parties, especially Conrad, but they just seem to hate it when kiena does it, last time they almost burned down the house, so she really wasn't in the mood for it.

---KIENA POV---

When i get to the door they're all there already, Belly and Jer are hugging and i see mom and Laurel doing the same, i look over to belly again and shes smiling and running at me. When she finaly hugs me i feel a feeling of comfort, but at the same time i feel so angry at myself because i have no idea what to say to her. Just act natural i tell myself.

-Kie! I missed you so much! how are you?

-Belly, i have no words! You look so good! I, I'm good how are you?- i say to her as i smile a little.

-Thanks! I'm great!- she says as she starts to look behind me and with that Conrad comes next to me.

-I liked you better with glasses.- he says.

I look at him in desbelieve by what he just said, i slap him on the shoulder as I walk away.

-To bad. I like me better without them.- i hear her say.

I see steven and Jeremiah talking and i go join them.

-Hey..- Steven says

-Hi.

Seeing Steven again was actualy way better than i thought. After that we just do the usual 'Belly Flop' by the pool, and when belly and Conrad are both at the pool i feel the tension but when i look at jer and steven by my side, they dont notice anything so i go back to the house.

The day goes by and at dinner i found out that belly actualy is going to the debutant ball thing too, wich i think somehow makes it better? After dinner i get ready for the bonfire when i heard the boys going out already so i call Nora to come and get me.

When i get there me and nora sit near the fire . Sometime later i see belly at the beach and that suprises me a lot, cause belly never goes out. Her and steven are fighting and she falls. I go and help her but when i get to her she talking to conrad and Nicole, and jer and steven are there too.

-Fine, but stay right here and don't talk to anybody.

-Chill steven, let her live a little. - i say and he rolls his eyes at me as he's leaving.

-Fuck you!- belly tells him.

-Come sit with me, then i get to show you my friend.- i say as we walk back to where Noras is.

-Hey, you must be Belly.

-Yeah, its me.

-Belly, this is Nora, she's nice i promise, even tho she doesn't show it.

Nora laughs and we sit there for a while, but then a guy comes and they seem to know each other, so Nora and I leave them and decide to go somewhere away from the crowd to smoke some weed so my brothers wouldn't see. We sat there for a few hours and then we talked. We talked about what it's going to be like this summer, and we talked about Steven. I find it easier to talk about my feelings when I'm like this, I'm not sure why, but the words come out better.

When i get back home i go to the kitchen thinking everyone would be a sleep already, but then i see conrad setting there with a wierd look on his face.

-Kiena have you been smoking again?

- what?

-Fuck Kiena!- he says as he stands up and walks over to me- Why are you doing this?

-Why are you, i mean you're pretty high right now aren't you?

- This has nothing to do with me, I'm going to college, you're still in high school, you're a kid.

- Oh, fuck you conrad - I say it as I leave the room. I hate it when they're like this, when they want to do the "big brothers" stuff. They treat me like a kid, and I hate it.

I go back to my room and go to bed. I' stay there for hours without sleeping, I stay there, staring at the ceiling, like I was in the morning, and I fall asleep thinking about how this summer is going to suck.
