Author: still_just_me
Genre: Teen fiction, sports romance
Maturity warning: None
Blurb: Football players are assholes. Ellie Harrison knows, she's related to one.
Ellie's older and highly overprotective brother Jake is the star quarterback of Santa Cruz High School's football team. She loves him but hates his shadow. After a traumatic experience her freshman year, Ellie's done with high school, boys, and dating - especially football players. All that matters is getting into a good college, so she can discover who she'll become. But with one more year of high school to go, she's stuck with her one and only friend Harper, waiting for senior year to expire.
Handsome, cocky, and rude, infamous Logan Hightower is the all-star quarterback at the rival school Salesian. After a string of taking what he wants from girls ends disastrously, his only focus is avenging Salesian's state championship loss to Santa Cruz. No girl holds his interest - until a tiny, fiery brunette name Ellie falls into his arms and instantly becomes an intriguing new challenge.
After their chance encounter, Logan intentionally switches their cell phones as a ploy to get to know Ellie. As they fall for each other, everything backfires when issues in their past threaten to end everything before it starts.
Can Ellie overcome nightmares from her past to find love or get heartbroken by the same stereotypical football player that she despises? Or will Logan's reputation as a player turn out to be more than just rumors, costing him everything he had dreamed of?
Why we love it: Another fantastic summer read. I Hate Football Players tells the story of quiet and very relatable bookwurm Ellie, as she navigates through a particularly tough teenage life. After a traumatic experience, she swears off all those asshole jocks, and pretty much guys in general. But there's one jock who is particularly persistent in getting her attention.
This story is 100 chapters filled with teenage friendship, love, and drama. With twist after twist, you'll be on the edge of your seat the whole way through, waiting to find out if everything turns out okay. The story goes back and forth between the two main characters. They have very different personalities and voices, which makes it incredibly fun to see certain scenes, and particularly the consequences of actions, from both perspectives. The dialogue is very realistic, helping all the characters come across as well-rounded and lifelike. All in all a wonderful story, which I'd recommend to anyone who loves a good teen drama/romance.
