You found it hard to believe that someone like Ha Sooyoung would ever be close to you. She was so...different from who you were - like she was from a different world, a world distant from the earth. It felt like you wouldn't be able to touch her if you reached out your hand no matter how close she stood. Your hand would go right through her as if she were a ghost.

She was confusing you, constantly changing the way she acted or talked to you. One time, she'd be friendly and energetic, giving you all her attention and making you feel like only you existed in her universe and then...she'd go quiet. An unreadable expression would plaster her face, one that you could not change with a funny joke or anything else. This made her unique from other people you've had in your life, but it also made her the root of your greatest pain.

The night was cold and you stood in front of her place. Your hands were in the pockets of your jacket and you watched the fog leave your mouth each time you breathed out. You were freezing, almost not being able to feel your face.

Tears started to prick your eyes, realization dawning on you and a heavy weight dropping onto your heart. She wasn't going to come.

"Sh-Shit," you whispered for yourself. "Why do I cling onto you so much, you bitc...?"

You chuckled dryly at your own pathetic thoughts, taking out your phone again as you did every five minutes, thinking that maybe you'd get an answer to your message you've sent hours ago.

"I'll be in front of your place at 8pm. If you don't come out and talk, I'll never speak to you again," it said.

She read it. You could see her little icon in the corner under the text, but...she never replied.

Has she never cared about you? Were you just her little distraction, her tool to use whenever she needed to feel something?

You looked up at the apartment building, staring right into the window you knew was hers. The apartment was completely dark except for her bedroom, where you could see a bedside lamp poorly illuminating it with a yellow light. She was home. She was right there, probably sitting on her bed or behind a table, fully aware that you were standing right there in the cold and dark, waiting for her.

You didn't even know why exactly you were doing this. You never agreed to date, you never had anything intimate. But, you spent majority of your time together, drinking and going to places. It made you feel as if you were in a relationship.

It was like accepting a free trial to a paid programme. Getting to see what you could have, only further making you want to accept the offer, but then...the one month runs out and you are given the decision. To let it go or to pay the price.

So when that time came, you exploded. You told her what you wanted. You wanted it to continue and make it official, but she ran away from it. She didn't give you any answer.

"Like a coward," you spoke through gritted teeth, tightening your grip on the phone.

Your thoughts were ready to leave, to abandon what you had completely and let go of her. But, your body wouldn't move. You were frozen to the ground of the parking lot. As mad as you were, there was one light still on in the darkness your brain was, saying: "Maybe, if I wait one more minute..."

The loud sound of your ringtone made you jump and you almost dropped your phone, before you looked at the screen, blanching at what name it displayed.

Yves.

You looked up at her window again and you gasped, seeing her silhouette staring back at you. You couldn't see her face, but just knowing it was her – it brought shivers all over your body.
