Donghyuck never imagined himself sprinting through the corridors of Tantiana University like this, his heels practically skimming the ground. He was used to being the one pursued, the one chased. Yet here he was, running as though his life depended on it.

His wrist throbbed faintly, the bright green tattoo a constant reminder of what—or rather, who—he was chasing. His thoughts were a swirling haze of one word: soulmate.

Students called out greetings, questions, and curious comments as he passed, but he ignored them all. His eyes locked onto her—the girl with a sharp gaze and an infuriatingly brisk pace.

Finally, he caught up. His hand instinctively latched onto her shoulder, halting her in her tracks.

Gayoon turned, startled. Donghyuck's breath came in shallow pants, but his gaze wasn't on her face. It was drawn to the edge of her collarbone, where a faint four-leaf clover tattoo peeked out.

"You," he rasped, his voice low, "you're my soulmate."

Gayoon's eyes flicked to his wrist and back to his face. She let out a slow breath, her expression unreadable. "Well, it seems we can't escape it, can we?"

Donghyuck ignored the question. "I didn't want to meet you," he said, his voice steady but cold. "If anything, I never wanted to know you for life."

Her lips twitched into a faint, humorless smile. "Apologies for the inconvenience. I didn't exactly plan on completing the bond either. I'll stay away, if that's what you want."

"Good—"

"Is that really what you want me to say?" she interrupted, her voice sharp.

His words caught in his throat. Silence stretched between them, thick and oppressive. Donghyuck leaned back against the wall, letting out a low groan. His hands clenched into fists, itching to move closer to her despite every fiber of his being telling him not to.

"Does this mean you're rejecting the bond?" Gayoon asked after a moment, her voice quieter this time.

"If I could, without consequence, I would," he replied instantly.

Yet the pang in his chest that followed told him otherwise. The bond didn't take kindly to rejection, and the ache was as much a physical pain as it was an emotional one.

Gayoon crossed her arms, her gaze flickering between Donghyuck and the corridor. She could feel the weight of the connection between them, an unspoken pull that refused to be ignored.

Out of all people, it had to be him, she thought bitterly.

When their eyes met again, it was like an invisible thread had been tugged tight, drawing them together. Donghyuck broke the connection first, shaking his head as though to dispel the thought.

"I'm not the ideal soulmate," he said, his tone flat. "This bond? It doesn't change who I am. Don't expect me to suddenly become someone I'm not."

Gayoon raised an eyebrow. "Does that include making out with the bride's sister at a wedding?"
