I woke up, the same as I did every morning. I pulled the covers off me silk sliding over my bare chest making me shiver. Dressed in only boxers I got up from my warm bed and stumbled over to my closet rubbing my tired eyes. I grabbed a tan sweatshirt and skinny jeans out of my closet and got dressed. I slid on my black converse and grabbed my backpack. I glanced at my mirror and shrugged leaving my light brown hair in its usual messy mop.
As usual I walked downstairs and opened the fridge. My mom rarely ever bought food which is probably why I was as skinny as I was. We could barely afford enough food to keep us alive after mom spent most of her money on cigarettes and alcohol. She worked on Saturdays and Sundays only at a crappy gas station down the road. The rest of the week she sits around the house drunk doing who knows what. After finding nothing worth eating I shut the door and yelled,
"Bye mom" As usual I received no reply. I assumed she had passed out drunk from the night before. I slammed the door behind me and started walking following my usual path to school, the route I followed every day.
I did basically the same thing every day. I woke up and got ready and go to school. After sleeping through my first classes I would go and eat lunch. A hamburger and peaches. The same thing every day. Then after sleeping through the rest of my classes, I would walk the same route back home.
I never went out with friends, played video games or did anything fun for that matter. I would come back home, lock myself in my bedroom (in case mom gets drunk and finds something to blame me for) and read.
I couldn't afford an Xbox or a phone so I would come home and read until I was tired enough to sleep and then the cycle would start over.
Once a week I would walk to the library and return the books I've read and check out more.
I read mostly romance. Usually gay romance because I could imagine myself falling for a hot guy with messy hair and a sharp jawline. Pathetic right? As if it would ever happen. I didn't have any friends let alone a boyfriend.
I was confident in my sexuality as gay. I didn't tell anybody because I really didn't have anyone to tell. I had to sneak my library books home in my backpack because I was scared my mom would find out I was gay and kick me out.
Like most of the people in my small rural town, she was extremely homophobic. If anyone ever told her I was gay I would be a dead man.
In short, my life was the same every day and nothing would change that.

When I got to school I put my backpack in my locker and walked to my first period which was social studies with Ms. Lane. The class was alright but it was hard to concentrate on sleeping when a bunch of girls were sitting in front of me, loudly gossiping about their latest crushes.
I walked in an sat down just as the bell rang. Ms Lane was desperately trying to get the large group of girls quiet because they were talking especially loud today.
I listened in curiously. I couldn't hear much because they were all talking at once but i managed to figure out that they were talking about a new boy. I rolled my eyes. Of course.I slumped down in my seat no longer interested in the conversation.
"James Hart?" Ms Lane asked looking around the classroom.
"Here" I replied. Now that the only part of class I had to stay awake for was over I closed my eyes and quickly fell asleep.
I slept through my next few classes. But I noticed everyone was talking about the new boy. Was he famous or something?
When the bell rang for lunch I sat down at my usual spot in the cafeteria and thats when I saw him. I instantly realized why all the girls were talking about him. This man was gorgeous. He had fluffy brown hair, icy blue eyes and a jawline that was so sharp it looked like it could cut a cake.
He was surrounded by a group of girls who were showering him in compliments from what I could hear.
My mouth was parched from sleeping all day so I got up to get a drink. When I came back he was gone. I could've cared less where he was at so I just went up to get my lunch like normal.
Once I got my hamburger I stepped forward to reach a tray of peaches at the same time somebody stepped backwards.
It felt like I hit a wall. I looked up to see who i'd bumped into and I was met with the icy blue eyes of the new kid. Of course.
From my 5'4 hight he looked like a giant. He had to be over 6 foot tall and he was ripped.
"I-i'm sorry" I stuttered nervously. A girl I didn't know the name of stepped between us and turned to me.
"What did you do to him!?" She demanded
"I accidentally bump-" She cut me off,
"Do it again freak and you're dead" She spat and stormed off. My eyes filled with tears and I left my tray and ran to the bathroom. For the first time in as long as I could remember, I didn't have a hamburger and peaches for lunch.
