I wake with a start. I get up and get ready for school while making sure to not look at my wrist. My name is Christina Kales. 150 years ago, after our species almost went instinct, scientists decided to bring matters into their own hands.
They injected everyone with a device that would make them and their children grow a clock that would count down till when they met their soulmate. I don't want to know though. I want to meet them and fall in love on my own. Without my stupid clock telling me when. I looked at it once, out of pure curiosity, when I was little. It said I would meet them around my 17th birthday. Which is in 10 days. I thankfully forgot the exact date though.
I finish getting ready for school and run down the stairs to the front door. "hey! You are forgetting something!" My brother, Cole screams while tossing me a apple. I catch it and yell back a quick "Thanks!" Before running out the door to the bus. I slow to a walk and pull out my phone to check the time. I run into a solid figure and fall to the ground. It's Josh. The school bully. "Christina, you should really watch where you are going, here, let me help you up. He grabs the scarf I tied around my wrist so I don't look at and yanks it off. "No! Josh give it back!" "Oh why would I do that sweetheart? You are going to lose it in minute and 5 seconds anyway. I gasp and look at my wrist. Sure enough it says 1 minute and 2 seconds. Josh throws it at my face and walks away smirking. I sit there for a second watching the seconds tick away.Someone clears their throat and I quickly tie the scarf back around my wrist. I look up, startled. I see emerald green eyes looking down at me with an apologetic look In their eyes. The figure lets out a quick "I'm sorry" before holding their hand out to help me up. I accept it and mumble "for what?"
He looks down at me,he's quite tall, and asks where I'm going. I explain that I'm going to the bus stop and he says he is too so we walk there together in a comfortable silence.
