We approached the mansion and I took a moment to admire the huge house from the outside. It was old, it looked like it may have been a church at one time with its long pointy spires and rickety iron gate. It was incredibly tall.and as we got closer I had to lean back to take in its entire massive existence.
It wasn't very colorful, and I loved it for that. It was surrounded by beautiful trees on either side and I could feel my soul relaxing at the sight of them. I had always felt so much more calm when I was around nature. I could definetly envision myself staying here for an extended length of time. I sighed as we made it to the heavy wood doors and Logan pulled a gigantic key from his pocket qnd stuck it into a hole in the door. I watched a cat as it crossed the grassy lawn toward us. I smiled as it came up to me and twined around my ankles. I reached down and picked her up, running my cheek along the fur on her spine. Never had I come across a cat that didn't like me and this one was no excetion.
I looked up to see everyone looking at me. I blushed and pulled the tawny cat against my chest. "Am I not supposed to do that?" I questioned, thinking to myself that I wlould hug this cat if they wanted me to or not.
Amy was the one to answer, "Gabrielle doesn't like anyone," she exclaimed, "She spits and bites anyone who gets within 10 yards of her."
I smiled, stroking her back, "Must be my natural charm." The others shook their heads in amazement, even Logan and walked in. I smiled again and set Gabrielle down who purred, hissed at the others once for good measure and took off into the woods. I laughed qnd followed them into the mansion/house where they were gathered into the chairs and couches of the lounge room three doors down.
I fell into a lay-Z-boy and sighed, stretching my legs out in front of me. The others coninued to look at me strangely, "Whaaaaaat," i said, growing annoyed. "That cat has been here since before me and not once have I seen anything like that. Not even Sfin who looks over her can hold her like that. I narrowed my eyes at Logan.
"Is she abused?" There was nothing I hated more or tolerated less than animal abuse and so help me if he did I would tear his throat out, threat from Lee or not.
But he shook his head and I nodded, leaning back and crossing my arms defiantely. Somebody mistreated her and I would find out who. Though it was always possible she had been abused before she had come to this place. I would just continuosly check her for open and fresh wounds or strange behaviour. That would have to do for now.
I took the small and quiet to break to look around the room. It was packed with comfortable gear for any type of person be he or she big or small, hard or soft. They had it all. I, for one, took what I got and right now that happened to be an easy chair.
The walls were a dusty grey color that I absolutely loved. I had actually been about to paint the walls in my room that exact color before the attack. The thought of the attack brought with a fresh burst of pain in my heart and shouder bur originated in my head. They were not real bursts of pain. my shoulder was obviously healed and my heart, well maybe not so much.
The light came from lamps scattered strategically around the room, casting perfect sahdows and giving the room a comfortable aura that just urged me to close my eyes and take a nap. My eyes began to drift before I jerked up as if on a wire at a thought. Next to me Luke started in surprise and Logan glared at me. "Does this place have a library," I said excitedly. All mansions had librarys right? If it did-
"Yeah," Luke answered, my smile spreading to him, "Do you want to see it?"
"Heck yeah, will you take me?" I grinned as he answered by jumping up and offering me his arm. I stood and took it. We headed for the door and out of the corner of my eye I saw Amy give him a strange look. He seemed to understand it though for he shook his head at her and continued on his way. i had to resist the urge to succumb to childish tendencies and turn and stick my tongue out at her, like an agrieved child having one the affections of a parent for the time being.
I held back a blush at the thought of sticking my toungue out at Amy and followed Luke to a set of large, wooden double doors, worn from thousands of hands pushing at them. "This is where council is held and to tell you the truth it has been many a persons favorite place," he stepped forward, releasing my arm and pushed open the doors. I moved in and gasped.
"I can see why," He grinned at my reaction. This was so much better than I had imagined. The ceiling went way high where it was decorated with beautif Boticelli Angels and they were lined all the around the circular room with books of all shapes and sizes. Big windows brought enough sunlight in to run the place on solar power. The chairs looked ordinary but for some reason so much more comfortable. I took a long glance as the others came up behind me, they too seemed delighted at my reaction. This was a place for appreciation. This was a place a person could live and die in.
I could imagine light music playing and sitting in one of those chairs with a pile of books for days. I was in Heaven. I was breathless and after a moment did I realize I wasn't breathing. i sucked in a big breath and then exhaled slowly, turning to the Hunters behind me, "Mind if I stay here awhile?" I asked and Amy shrugged,
"Feel free," Then she turned and left. I shrugged and smiled, then began going around the room. Looking at the beautiful spine and the dust motes and the wonderful book smell. I was going to pass out or pee myself or something. This was crazy! Not even in my dreams did I visit a library this grand and vast. The boys chukled quietly as they watched me before leaving. I couldn't care less, I took a few books and settled into a chair, I could spend and infinite amount of lives here. I smiled and opened a book, wanting to stay forever.
