13. The Answer And The Life-Changing Moment

I couldn't speak. I couldn't believe this was happening. This is something that only happens in dreams! Fantasies! I pinched myself.
"Ouch!"
James looked at me confused. "'Ouch?' That's your answer?"
"No! I mean yes! I mean no! Wait!" I took a deep breath and calmed myself down. "I said 'ouch' because I pinched myself. I couldn't believe this was happening; I thought I was dreaming."
"Why'd you think-"
I held my hand up. "Wait not done. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that you're even with me or the fact that you care about me and plan to stay with me."
He tried to speak again, but I beat him to it.
"You're way out of my league so I'm going to take advantage of thus, but not in a bad way. I'm going to like use you or something because that would be fucked up and- and I'm rambling do I'm just going to say I love you too and yes and shut up now."
He stared at me for a second before his eyes widened. "Yes?"
I nodded. "Yes!"
James jumped up and pulled me in his arms.
"I don't think I'll ever be more happy than today." He whispered.
There was a knock on the door.
"Everything okay in here?" Nikki and Zak walked in.
"Where's Nick and Aiden?" I asked.
Zak and Nikki exchanged a look.
"Ummm... They're...having issues..." Nikki trailed off.
"They're arguing and by the sound of it, it's not going to end well." Zak stated. I shot a worried look to James and left the room.
I heard them before I saw them in the kitchen.
"I don't get why you're so angry!" Nick yelled.
"I'm mad because every chance you get, you always talk about leaving me for someone else! You're always flirting with another guy! Do you know how that makes me feel? It makes me feel like a piece of shit!" Aiden's voice cracked; he's been crying. "It's like you're advertising the fact that you're open to cheating on me! That you'd leave me in a heartbeat for someone else! Well if I'm that bad of a boyfriend, then leave! 'Cuz I can't take it anymore!"
Silence.
"Aiden, what are you saying?" Nick whispered slowly.
"I'm saying... I'm saying I'm done with you Nick... It's over."
Aiden left the kitchen and saw us standing near the doorway. His eyes were red and puffy. His cheeks wet with tears, old and new.
"I-I..." He ran out the house.
"Aiden!" Nikki shouted and ran after him, Zak following close behind. I went in the kitchen and found Nick leaning on the island, crying.
"Nick?"
He looked up. His cheeks were wet and his eyes bloodshot. I opened my arms. Nick went into them and cried into my chest.
"Shh... It's okay." I whispered.
"No, it's not. I can't lose him. He's my life. Oh, Robin, I messed up big time!"
