It was getting dark outside. The sun was just setting over the horizon, taking the colors of orange and pink with it. I was still in my backyard, practicing basketball. Basketball is basically the only thing I do. Basketball is my life. It's the only thing I look forward to everyday.

I took a shot, then my phone rang. I grabbed my ball and took a drink of water. Then I answered my phone. I was all sweaty. Sweat dripped down my face and my back.

"Hello?" I said.

"Hey K, it's Carlee and Iyanah," they said. Carlee and Iyanah have been my best friends since forever.

"Oh, hey guys," I said, "what's up?"

"Well, we were wondering, that if you were done practicing, if you would wanna come to come to the club with us," said Carlee.

"Does it require me to wear something dressy?" I asked, even though I already had a feeling of what the answer would be.

"Uh, duh."

"Then no."

"Ok, well, then wear something 'nice'," said Iyanah. I thought about it for a minute. "Fine, but I'm not dancing," I said.

"Yes you are! We'll be over there in 20 minutes. Bye!" said Iyanah.

"Bye," I said smiling.

I grabbed my water bottle and looked up at the sky. It was a nice shade of dark blue. The sky was clear, no clouds. You could see the stars and the moon. I searched the night sky for my mom's star. She always used to say that when ever I saw that star, we would be together no matter where we are. I loved my mom. I stared up at the sar. The moon's light reflected off the star and made it twinkle. To me, it was the brightest star in the sky. I smiked at it.

"Hi mom," I said to the star, "I miss you very much. I just wanted you to know that I love you and I never stop thinking about you." I stopped and looked at the ground. As I looked back up at the star, a tear ran down my cheek.

"I wish you were here, so I could hug you one last time. If I ever got that chance, I would never let you go. I love you mom."

I whipped the tear from my cheek. I took one last look at the sky and all the twinkling stars. They looked like dimonds glistening in the dark night sky. My mom's star twinked extra bright. I smiled, then went inside to get ready to go out.
