———"..Now, moving on in our presentation we will be going over the history of humankind and monsters. Who we all now know are co-existing alongside us once again.."
You stared absentmindedly at the moving arrangement of slides that your professor was clicking through. You had already known the whole history of monsters and the mages who trapped them in the underground long ago. But it couldn't hurt to hear about it again, since this was a monster study class.
You needed the credits and it just happened that you were just as curious about monsters. It had been about three months since they reappeared on Mount Ebott, and about three months since the news went wild. Everyone and their children were acting as if the devil itself had crawled up from hell and was now planning world domination. When in reality, monsters just wanted a better life like anyone else.
A good few had actually welcomed them, and treated them like they weren't outcasts, or even better. And that always made you feel hopeful.
"...what don't we already know? Monsters started a war against us and we finished it, that was it. We shouldn't even allow those disgusting things to be here..."
You stiffened, turning to look over at the guy who was seated next to you, mumbling to himself. Unfortunately, out of all of the people in the class, you just had to be seated near the racist. Who, for the life of him, couldn't stop talking. It was almost funny, he had chosen to be in a monster study class, just to complain.
And although you weren't close friends with many monsters, the ones you had gotten to know in town were some of the most misunderstood and sweetest people out there. Like the ice cream guy in the park near your house who started recognizing your order, or the lovely goat lady who lived in the house right by you. She even gave you a pie as a neighborly gift. Being that you haven't spoken to anyone outside of your lectures in almost a year, it was nice to not be lonely in your neighborhood.
So hearing that, annoyed you. Especially when one of your only friends was a lizard monster who went to this university as well, and hell would you ever let him say something like that to Alphys.
You sighed shortly and started tapping your pencil against the wooden desk. Without sparing a glance, you reprimanded him with a neutral tone; you made sure to keep your voice low enough so only he could hear it.
"..yeah well, you were allowed here so monsters should be just fine."
Ignoring the look of disbelief that came across his face, you shifted your focus to what your professor was explaining on the slideshow. You pretended to not hear the "..bitch.." that murmured out of his mouth as you shifted your chair up closer to the table. You tuned into the sounds of clicking keyboards and the whirling of the air conditioner.
"...the barrier was destroyed, and out came the monsters along with the missing human child, as we all know is the monster ambassador, Frisk..." Your professor began to slowly pace around as the screen had changed to a familiar face.
Frisk. You had seen them all over the news advocating the new peace treaty between humans and monsters. And despite being mute, the words that were expressed only through their hands were incredible. Numerous times they had explained how monsters had no intention to harm humankind and how they just wanted to be free.
